I occurred to me last night as I did the lvl 2 Pirate Campers mission that next to the de-activated warpgate was one massive Velspar Asteroid.
I decided to check it out properly and discovered that this was a 90k unit asteroid. Quick maths calculated that this asteroid was worth 450k ISK at the in systems prices for Velspar which was 350k more than the time bonus.
Not being a miner, it probably took me more time to mine and haul this Velspar than most. I suspect that I could have run multiple combat missions to get a better reward in the same time. But variety is the spice of life.
Being a mission, I only had to worry about NPC pirates since I was relatively safe from being found. No issues with ore thieves as well so my containers could be dumped in easy reach. I could see a major advantage in low sec space.
Having also seen Omber in other missions, does anyone have any recommendations for missions where the time bonus can be ignored and mining mission asteroids can be profitable

We mined 720k omber from a stage of enemies abound - still had a few roids left so I'm guessing it was 1m omber.
Amazing how much you can mine when the damn roids don't keep popping (90k per roid).

If you are doing a mission in deadspace and you clear it out and then call you corpmates into the area to mine out the ore :
If I then go and finish the mission, does the gate still work if I warp to my corpmates ?
Or do they get kicked from the area as soon as the mission is completed ?
It might be worth leaving an alt in there to allow you to warp back to them with a mining ship to clear out the ore.

If you finish the mission, all the mission-related stuff disappears, including the asteroids, gate, deadspace, etc. Loot cans/jet cans will the only things left.

they can remain there, and see the deadspace disappear around them, including the asteroids.
If you want to mine out a mission, you have to leave the mission open. Also, if you want the roids to remain, you can't kill absolutely everything in the mission: I've heard posts of ppl who wanted to mine the roids, so they left the mission open, and killed everything in the two deadspace zones. Came back after downtime, and there wasn't a roid to be found. Thus you have to leave some objectives/ships alive (even if they are in the second part, and the roids are in the first) to be able to mine them post-DT.

I recently mined the Omber roids in Downing the Slavers (2 of 2)... I hadn't mined in over 2 years and I must admit it made a pleasant change
In the first stage there are a variety of types:
Omber roids (50k units) at least 8-10 asteroids if i remember correctly.
Scordite (25k?) Approx 10
Veldspar (90k units) Approx 10
The mission had a time bonus of 704k if it was completed in 6 hours....All the asteroids and NPC's respawn after downtime if you don't complete the mission objective on the second stage. That's a possible 6 days of respawned mining
What do people think of selling the locations of these belts in a kind of contract system.. good idea?

That's simply because the server went down. I have yet to return to mission area after downtime to still find roids there. In fact, two days ago when the server crashed I had 400K worth of Omber I needed to mine in a mission area that vanished. When the server goes down, so do the roids. So, don't start a mission you know has roids in it you want to mine close to server downtime. I had that same mission again yesterday and waited until today to do it because it was too close to downtime.

Rogue Slave Trader 2 of 2
The first part of this 2 gate mission has 4 Omber roids. As long as you dont jump into the second area these roids keep respawning everyday and they respawn to a total size of 500k everyday.
You do have to kill the rats each day before you start though.
With the help of a friend I have actually had two of the same mission open for a week so as we could stock up on Isogen for building.
I still havent got over it yet.........
