For the past several years TDSIN has held a BBQ lasting a weekend at one of our corp member's farms, with the size and awesomeness growing each year.
Last year we invited some non corpies and had a great time getting to meet some of the people we shoot at often in person and we want to further expand upon this.
The host of the party ( who has delegated all details to myself) has discussed the possibility of tossing the invitation to the wind, and seeing what we get. But before I do that I wanted to feel out interest and see who, if anyone would want to come.
So some details!
When:The BBQ will be Aug 15-17, more or less going all weekend, starting Friday afternoon, and ending noonish on Sunday come for however much youd like to.
What: Primarily consisting of eating, and hanging out. In the past it has relied on people bringing food/drinks to share, so we are hesitant to invite everyone, but looking at possibilities. We are also looking into potential events this year since the size is rapidly increasing over previous years.
Where: Central New Hampshire, US. One of our corp members owns a 200 acre farm, so in the past we start a bonfire, grills and eat/ drink the night away, sometimes to live music by talented ( or non talented) people playing instruments. Pending responses to this we will provide the exact address.
other details:
The farm is a tad away from any larger cities, but there is a hotel nearby, no idea how large it is, many people end up just crashing in sleeping bags/ their cars. Some have brought tents in the past. The weather up here is usually plenty warm enough to camp under the stars in August.
The event takes place at the home of a corp member, so I am also curious if anyone has experience opening up their home to such events. In general are the eve players that come respectful enough you would recommend doing it? We are hesitant to invite people weve never even spoke to in game or on Ts3 for fear some scumbags will come, and it wont take much to ruin the event for everyone.
Any insight or " id like to come" are welcome

I am currently talking to CCP Guard about having a Dev or other CCP representative come out. We have a couple CSM coming to the event already.
Can't wait to meet all you crazy EVE people at my first EVE community event! |

Yes, I was going to ask you about this, just hadn't had a chance to sit down and write you a mail. There are 2 of us from Monkeys with Guns. who are planning to come, if our match that weekend were to happen to run alongside our time there and we didn't have a way to get on it would make things a little difficult because our roster isn't so big they could do without both of us. It could also be a non factor if we don't play until Sunday since we were planning on coming over for the Saturday portion and leave late Saturday night.
Might also be cool if you guys had the AT up and streaming somewhere, but if there's this many people coming that might not be possible to have it in a room everyone could cram into. Should be over long before its time to start making bonfires.

It's more the other issues associated with it that pile up when it's taken into account. A look at the brackets suggests my match is the second one on Sunday, which would be in the middle of the morning for me. I can't go up there and spend enough time to make the drive worth it (I'm not someone who cares much for being in a car, and I care for actually driving even less), and get home and get enough sleep before the match.
The offer for internet and a quiet room are appreciated, but I'd rather be using a connection I trust on my own machine, which would be more hassle than it's worth to pack up.
If you host another one of these that isn't during a tournament I'll totally be there, though. :)

If anyone has space for any number of people going east from anywhere in the midwest/rust belt, let me know. I'm in Western NY on the I-90, so it shouldn't be too out of the way for people coming from further west. I'd love to attend this, it would be my first EVE Event, please help make it happen.

My brother is driving down from Rochester but not driving back, (we live in GA) I'm flying in somewhere along the route and he'll be picking me up whenever / wherever I get in.
He might be able to get you a ride if you're without one. Not sure how cramped it would be in his car with 5 people though. Give me a shout if you want me to look into it.

We are planning no getting some cases of some different beers but if you have specific tastes I would recommend bringing some of your own stuff.
Amount wise your ticket covers some, but if you plan on drinking a lot id recommend bringing your own stuff as well.

Defiantely bring whatever alcohol youd like! We will likely have some basic brands but the quantity is unknown as thats the last thing im buying.
In regards to your first question, what you do by yourself over in some woods or away from everyone is up to you. But we dont want people smoking anything ( tobacco inc) in the crowded areas. Tldr if people are smelling it its a issue

I will be coming from Northern Virginia, close to Washington DC. If there is anyone that wants to come but does not have a ride I can pick you up if you are willing to provide gas money. I am willing to go out of my way to pick you up but has to be within reason, I am not driving 50 miles out of my way if you are only going to give me $20 in gas...
I will be leaving the BBQ Sunday morning and I will take anyone I brought with me back to where I picked them up. If you want to stay longer that is your choice but you will need to find your own way home.

- I have a backpack and that's it, so I won' take up too much room if you have a loaded or small vehicle.
2. Ultimate Frisbee. I don't have one with me currently, so someone please please please bring a frisbee.

Actually, Jalapeno beer is great. I'm not a huge fan of spicy, but it's actually really good. I was skeptical before I tried it at first, but now I cannot recommend it enough. Hard to find in the bottle though. Generally something like that is a home brew.

I just want to thank you guys for hosting this event. I don't get out to too many Eve meets, but I've done a few, and this was by FAR my favorite. I hope you make a habit of this, and have another next year. What a good time.

This event was a lot of fun, had a good time, was definitely worth the 500 miles of driving in the day. I will make a weekend out of it next year and bring more people. Thanks to everyone that went through the trouble of putting the event together. |
