Trying to get the most bang out of a ratting fit for torp raven. Right now I have a warhead flare (increased explosion velocity) on it but wondering if I'm missing the boat on something better. GÇ£Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do. GÇ¥ - Dale Carnegie

You should really use Cruise Missiles, they have much better range and damage application so in the end you end up with more actual dps than Torps. That being said you'll want 3 rigor rigs with cruise missiles and for Torps you either want rigors or range rigs (rocket fuel cache partition/hydraulic bay thrusters) depending on what kind of ratting you're doing. |

Ratting is all close range (<20km), so I don't need the range for cruises. I'm just looking for highest dps. Right now, torps have the higher dps but if they don't apply damage the same...then do they not? Lot of variables to consider with missiles but it looked like the biggest effect to consider was the explosion radius.
What's different about torp damage application vs. cruise? GÇ£Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do. GÇ¥ - Dale Carnegie

Use 3x Rigor Is, or 2xRigor IIs + Flare II.
Quote:What's different about torp damage application vs. cruise? Range. And T1 torps have a better explosion radius than Cruise Fury.
Quote:With that said, I think I tried a rigor early on and it was very poor damage. Is that the rig to use against smaller ships? All ships. If you're shooting Angel battleships, you'll want one TP as well.

Thing about flare is the bigger NPC rats rarely move fast enough for it to matter. Size though always matters.
I was always told flare rigs were more a PvP. |

In pvp, you're way more likely to have issues with target velocity compared to sigrad - esepecially if 90% of the people use MWDs anyways.
With the way the application formula is supposed to work for missiles though, it barely matters which of the two you chose, since you're constantly lacking both exp velocity and - radius. "I honestly thought I was in lowsec"

"Extra" radius can compensate for "missing" velocity, but not vice versa. This means that even if your radius is already small enough, rigors will still help more than flares. |

It's true, they are both practially identical but it is not possible for a ship to evade missile dps by turning on a mwd. There is only 1 situation where it really matters. And that is when a target is webbed and not painted. Your expl velocity suddenly doesn't matter much anymore, only the expl radius. So even if a target doesn't move at all you could still not apply full damage. Hence rigors is still the way to go since in that situation it could make a difference of houndreds of dps. Even tho if you use missiles there is a big chance there is a painter involved.
And the fact that expl radius transfers the exact amount of % it has too much into expl velocity and not the other way around. So there really isn't any reason to choose a flare unless its a matter of calibration. |

Golem is really your only option for torps because of the tp bonuses. Anything else, and really even on golem, use cruises.
Torps have great paper damage, but that is about it. |

This reply should have ended the thread. Cruise will do more damage than torps on almost every target in the game bar a couple of specialised ships like the Golem. Cruise also can hit at a longer range. Rigors are almost alway better than flare. Feel free to use torps to shoot caps and structures. Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85 |
