I wasn't sure which forum would be best for this, so after 20 minutes of indecision I plumped for this one.
Fans of video game music are frequently remaking and remixing tracks, from vintage games to some of the latest titles (OverClocked ReMix, VGmix) - so why should EVE be an exception? Jon Hallur has done an excellent job with the music of EVE, some of which is genuinely memorable and definately helps enhance the atmosphere of EVE. Even those of us who largely play with the music muted (for whatever reason) will have a handful of tracks that they enjoy.
The first track to make my favourites list was Red Glowing Dust - one of the more melodic pieces in the game. This is actually why I chose to remix it (since many of the tracks I like are more about sound than anything else). This remix kinda just *happened*. I was talking about remixing and the EVE music in my corp and then got carried away in my sequencer one evening. It's not entirely finished and could certainly do with some polish in places.
Anyway, if you enjoy it let me know. If you hate it, please give constructive criticism - I don't care if you think I suck or it's the worst thing you've ever heard. ;)
So here it is: Red Glowing Dust Remix MP3
PS. If there are any other EVE remixes out there, I'd love to hear them!

Not too sure about this one, it's not bad as such it just reminds me of the usual generic trance mixes of...well, every tune ever tranced up.
Gawwd, I do like the remix but there's..that..evil...part..inside
Good job

Hehe. Guilty as charged.
I've heard plenty of "trance" remixes out there. In this case I'd already started on something similar (an original track), reused a few components and found they kinda worked. Well, for me anyway. Still, got the beeeeewww beeeww-beewwww beeeeewww bassy things in there. What more could you want?

It's not a bad track, though I agree it's too happy. I'd also like to know what software and equipment was used.
Reason ftw \o/ I'm such a bad composer though :(

The notes are pretty much as in the original btw. I didn't change anything there. Perhaps it's the beat that made it go happy? |

It's the flute thing that made it go happy.
It's not bad at all, it's just interesting that you got that kind of sound out of Jon Hallur's work.

Really, it's the uptempo and the beep that makes it "happy". Not that I think this is bad, mind you, I think this is a very neat interpretation of Jon Hallur's work and I'm stunned it's taken this long for something like this to happen. It still feels "EVE" to me; the kind of EVE song you'd want to play when you find half a dozen Omber asteroids in a mission, for example. I can't wait to hear a "cleaned-up" version of this, I think it already sounds very nice and it's definitely found a home on my hard drive and my EVE playlists.
If we're going to talk about remixing, however, I have one request. Take the old heavy industrial Caldari theme tracks found in the ResMusic.stuff file... and arrange them for Oritental woodwinds, drums and strings.

this is effing brilliant, cos now i can listen to eve music in the kitchen etc and people will think i'm listening to something contemporary all the while i'm thinking about that skill thats nearly at level 5 and how i'm going to setup my chimera next month.
I understand you may need to be inspired to work on stuff, but if you could make another track - below the asteroids, i'll sponser you 200m
Thanks ______________________________________

I'm easily bought.
Ah, another melodic one. Not too sure what I'd do with it though. I'll have to think on it.

Wow really nice! I hope they use this - excellent remix! Do you have a link to any of your other stuff? Very impressed
What did you do it in - cubase? I think it stands up great as a track in istself - I would be streamripping it if I heard it on di.fm for example.
Hats off

Not really. Last track I actually finished was over a year ago and it's not all that great. Before that, well, you're looking at 2000. I'm rarely focussed or inspired enough to get anything done.

You should really email Jon and let him hear it - I'm sure he would be chuffed that you remixed it. I also suspect you may ger roped into doing some tracks for CCP. I would love to hear more relevant tracks for Eve (tuning into trance radio is not the same for some reason). You could also harden it up a bit and make a couple of housey numbers for battles

Btw, my favourites are:
Red Glowing Dust Below the Asteroids Do You Know Where You Are I Saw Your Ship Hidden Mementos Omens Something Old, Something New Surplus of Rare Artifacts Minmatar Rebel Alliance Amongst Allies
...and most importantly, Stellar Shadows, which was the splash theme back when I started playing EVE. I think it's practically criminal that this is no longer the case! It sounds kinda epic to me. Considering a remix there, but I don't know if I could do it justice.

Edited by: Xerxes X on 26/05/2006 13:37:38 Love the remix, done a great job at preserving the meaning of the tune.
Would be interesting (if possible) to incorporate a different remix with the Blue Danube Waltz from Elite.
Also where is RealX these days? Hoping for more of his tunes embedded in the Kali patch.

Real nice remix. Please do Below the Asteroids as another requested. It's my fav tune. Not the evesite one but the ingame one. The evesite one is way slower than the ingame version.

Hrmm, I wasn't aware of a difference. I'll have to extract it now. I know a couple of the others are definitely better in-game than the website versions.

Why not try posting them on Overclocked? It would give people somewhere to look for EVE remix tunes. ------- Ilany Head of Internal Communications, Huzzah Federation |
