Hi,
I have an xseries 232 IBM server on my LAN and I am hoping to run Eve on it so I can play next to my partner..
The server specs are dual p111 (2x 1.2ghz)and 1gb ram. I have just bought a USB soundcard and await a pci Rage 128 pro (128mb) graphics card. My question is really quite an open one, firstly would this machine do well playing eve and secondly how would the dual processor behave ?
Thanks in advance. HF

Rage 128 cards I doubt very much will play EVE in anything but the worst looking way if at all. But you say 128mb ... which IIRC they didn't make. Radeons started at 32mb and then to 64mb and those ran better than 128s. I know because I have both and the Radeon DDR 32mb AGP and Radeion SDR 64mb AGP I have both run EVE but the textures are arse ugly.
Now if you are quoting the name wrong and indeed it is a 128mb PCI video card I would suspect its a 9250 or something like that. Those will run EVE ok... but don't expect much. As for the Dual CPU and ram... you should be ok but again... don't expect much.

i'm guessing such a machine would be plenty good enough to run eve. as regards dual cpu. i had a dual Xeon manchine i used to run eve on til i moved to iceland, i never had 1 problem with the dual cpu stuff.

I can verify that the Radeon DDR and SDR AGP will barely run EVE even if the CPU is running on a Dual Core 3800+.
I will be very skeptical if it will run at all on a Rage 128 no matter how much memory it will have. This is if the card the OP stated is correct unless some offbrand ATI partner is selling one of their more modern PCI products with the Rage 128 PRO name despite it being an actual chip from ATI. My Opteron Server will a RAGE 128 PRO will not run with EVE fyi.
The rest of the CPU will be fine.

Edited by: Hellfiah on 27/05/2006 08:30:18 Thank you all very much for your comments. The video card in question has been misadvertised on ebay where I was intending to buy it from. I am now in the position where I need to decide on a new video card.
Can anyone recommend the best card for this set up?
-edit-
I omitted to say that it would be the old standard PCI type not the AGP or PCI-E.
Thank you.

There is a PCI version of the GeForce FX5500 card. That's more than good enough for playing Eve. |
