Just wondering if CCP will in the future allow us to delete skills. I for one kinda like role playing to a limited degree and I hate having something like Mining lvl 1 on a combat character, or gunnery lvl 1 etc on a manufacturing charqacter also
I know it's probably been asked many times in the past, and I know it won't ever be introduced but I really love the dream of being able to totally have a dedicated character without ay redundant and useless skills.
Again apologies

While that would be nice, I don't think it fit's in with the whole EVE theme I'd settle for deleting skills full stop. Just so I can tidy up the skill sheet. But then I'm funny when it comes to that, I have to have every skill in a category at a certain lvl

I wouldn't mind this, but only if it's a complete delete without returning any of the SP.

You have no idea...
I argued for a week with two GMs about the removal of my Caldari frigate III skill.
I was forced to train it since a genius had decided that to be able to fly an Amarr Navy Slicer you had to have Caldari Frigate III.
When they fixed that some time later in a patch I naturally wanted this abomination of lesser ship skill removed.
I am Amarr, fly only Amarr ships and will only fly Amarr ships. Corp policy and my personal belief!
Needless to say, after several messages back and forth I still have a Caldari frigate book in my collection and it sullies my nature.
BURN IN HELL you silly dev.

I have Amarr frig and Small energy turret skills.
I'm proud of them although I'm anti - Amarr.
They will always remember me:
1. That I fled 2. What I fled 3. How I fled 4. Why I fled 5. Where I fled to 6. When I fled 7. What happened AFTER I fled
Like my amarrian face I will never get rid of knowing how to fly their ships, built by exploiting sentient beings (slaves) and fire their lasers.
It is part of my roleplay having those two skills I hate so much. They are equivalent to the scars on my soul I suffered when I saw the amarrian beasts kill my stepparents and siblings, when I was almost beaten to death by one of their holders.

Edited by: Godagast Goudiyah on 13/06/2006 11:34:52 This "let us remove skills" topic comes up once a month or so, and I really wonder why. Are one or two ranks in a "bad" skill on your character sheet really such an aesthetic abomination that you cannot bear to live with it?
Of all the things that CCP could possibly improve or fix about the game, this one must surely rank among the least important. As well as that, think about the options. If you introduce a mechanism that lets you exchange old skill points for new, different skills, it will get incredibly messy. I can already imagine the moaning and the flame wars now. The devs are not going to open that can of worms.
On the other hand, introducing the ability to simply remove skills without compensation, as some people here suggest - purely for aesthetic purposes, I suppose - would be absolutely useless in practical terms. Truth be told, there really is no need for it. Unless you are one of the small number of sensitive souls who apparently have sleepless nights over seeing Mining 1 on their sheets...

They should allow us to "unlearn" them...even with the time needed to "unlearn" that skill

if you mean delete so it wont even show up under your char sheet they will never do that since if you had a cadistrophic loss of isk you would need frigate I and mining I to use the rookie ship and the civ mining laser to get back in action ----------------------------------------------- I lost 5 sp of skill trainning time during the last patch an i demand that ccp refund it to me |

No.
In that case you can go for rats as well, you can easily kill .8 rats with the rookie ship. A few of them and you're back into business with a nice frig with 4 weapons of your choice (tech 1), ammo and a small tanking setup, ready for 0.5 rats.
Or, even better:
Ask a buddie to give you a few million ISK.

I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
I, also, have some mild obsessive-complusive tendencies towards such things. My solution is to not look at my skill sheet. Whenever I change skill I dive in, hit the button, and get back out as fast as I can. Haven't reviewed my skills in weeks, so random and messy . ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin

The thing about deleting skills is it's so final and quick, here's my idea.
Reverse skill training.
This is how it would work....
In order to delete the skill you must reverse train it to 0 (zero) points first. Reverse training takes both primary and secondary attributes fully into account. I.E. primary 20 secondary 17 = 37 (But open to the idea of x2 full atts) Only when the skill reaches 0 (zero) points, can you delete it from the list, even then it gives you a warning.
You can ofc change your mind at any time with this.
I know it may seem strange to some, but to many the thought of "cleaning" their char skill sheet is a true passion. With this system there maybe a penalty, but it stops quick and stupid actions.
Your thoughts?

I think it would be useful for keeping the price of clones down and such. Why pay for a 5mil SP clone, when you have 1mil of 'useless' sp? Of course, at 5mil SP, there ins't much that is..useless.

Could perhaps implememt a system where you can "unlearn" a skill by setting it to an "unused" status. Similar to taking Calculus in college, if you don't use it for 10 years, you kind of forget how to.
Set the skill with a checkbox to "unused", and then over time (perhaps 3-4 times as long as it took to train), you slowly lose SP in that skill through intentional "forgetting".
Might work easier, and would still take time and reflect a little on real life. Of course, you could also have clones remember those skills you had "forgotten" if you untrained them after last updating your clone...might be comical. "What! I forgot I knew how to fly...wait...why did I ever learn this? *clicky*"
