Hi
I'm kinda noobish, but managed to get through all level 1 missions (until now) without much resistance.
I'm using a Cormorant fitted with:
125mm Railgun 1 x6 (Antimatter Charge S) Light Missile Launcher 1 (Nova Light Missile)
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster (fuel: Cap 50) Small Ancillary Armor Repairer
200mm Reinforced Nanofiber Plates I
Upgraded 1NM Microwarpdrive I
I'm trying to finish a mission called Worlds Collide, which is supposed to be a level 1 mission, but I'm getting my A** handed over to me.
I followed some advice as to AB through room 1 and 2, but I seem to aggro everything immediately after dropping out of warp, and the NPC's go at it full steam, destroying my shields almost instantly. If I make it to the accelerator, the same happens when I drop out of warp in room 3. There is no way I can stay there for longer than say 20 seconds... I can't even get to a save distance.
I noticed in the patch changelog of may 13th that there was a fix for that mission, but it doesn't say what level. has anyone done this mission after the patch and how did it go?
Is my ship fit for this mission, or should I grind to T2 gear first? PS: I can't get into a fight before being obliterated, so the guns don't really matter, do they?
Thanks for any advice :-)

What faction of worlds collide are you trying to do? Angel Cartel & Sansha Nation Blood Raiders & Angel Cartel Blood Raiders & Angel Cartel
Knowing this will help to make your fit right.
Try fitting this;
[Cormorant, test]
7x 125mm Prototype Gauss Gun (Antimatter Charge S)
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster (Navy Cap Booster 50) Limited Adaptive Invulnerability Field I 1MN Microwarpdrive I
F85 Peripheral Damage System I Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I Small Core Defense Field Extender I
I would rather use Blasters personally but Railguns might work as long as your not moving to fast when you fire.
Things that keep me up at night;-á Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state,-áOnce you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another. |

Okay I'm pressed for time in RL but I will adress your fit...
You never mix tanks and there are some other problems with your fit. Here's something I put together that has the basic concept right. Anyone feel they can improve or add please do.
[Cormorant, Cormorant: PVE] Magnetic Field Stabilizer I Magnetic Field Stabilizer I
Small Clarity Ward Booster I Limited Adaptive Invulnerability Field I Cap Recharger I
125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S 125mm Compressed Coil Gun I, Antimatter Charge S [empty high slot]

Two issues here:
1) never mix shield and armor tanking in a mission boat
2) Plates are a PvP buffer fit item for taking alpha damage, not for sustained tanking. Do not use plates in a mission boat, no matter how tempting. |

Isis, If you have not done so already you should use a site called Mission Reports to help you get through your missions. Here is the link for it.
Also, a little bit of advice from one noob to another:
What has already been said is spot on. Never have two types of tanking going on; you either want Active (High resists = Active modules) or Passive/Buffer (High EHP = Plates and extenders or fast shield recharge) and between the two, Active is much more common in PVE. A passive fitted tank is a PVP thing but in saying all of this I'm only repeating what others before me have said.
Just follow the previous advice given and use Mission Reports. I find that the comments at the bottom of the page (the most recent ones) often give more helpful information than the rest of the page combined. Always look at the comments, because keeping your ship is worth an extra 5 seconds of reading.
A few other missioning tools in game are the chat channel "Help My Mission" (HMM) in case you need a little extra firepower, and Pro Synergy. Though I doubt they'd even bother salvaging level 1 missions...
How the **** do I remove this thing |

Yeah pretty much.
Actually there are three buffer, passive and active.
Buffer Tank does not regenerate at all, just has lots of HP. It is mainly used for short engagements, things like suicide ganking or for slow aligning ships like Orcas trying to survive gate camps.
Passive Tanks rely on a big shield with good resists and special low slot modules that result in a fast natural shield regen rate without using cap. This sort of fit suits long engagements were cap may be an issue. Level V losec missions where the rats neut your cap are a good PVE example of where passive tank is good.
Active Tank uses cap to continually repair your shield or armor. This is the most common tanking in PvE.
To complicate matters there is also Range Tanking (use a MJD to jump 100km and snipe from a safe distance), Spider Tanking (take a fleet and all remote repair each other) and Kiting (try and get in close and fly really fast so they cannot hit you).
In missions active tanking is the most common. Range Tanking is used by some destroyers and is very common with MJD sniper BS like the Dominix that fit very little actual tank t make room for more damage modules.
Except in certain very very rare situations (such as a bait ship) you should never mix Shield Tank with Armor Tank nor should you mix Active and Passive Tanks.

Hi first off you defo want to use railguns not blasters.
I have some reading for you: http://www.thewholefrigate.com/2013/10/railguns-101-range-limitations-are-for.html http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Cormorant http://www.thewholefrigate.com/2012/10/magical-kiting-101.html
This is my personal fit that I used to mission with: 6 150mm railgun I 2 salvager I
1 medium shield extender 1 small C5-L emergency Shield Overload 1 experimental 1mn afterburner
1 nanoelectrical Co-processor I 1 Beta Reactor Control
1 small anti thermal rig 1 small anti kinetic rig 1 small anti em rig 1000 antimatter S
As you can see its not perfect, but at the time I had less then a million skill points and it works. Just remember to aggro rats by shooting at them then fly directly away from them into space so they chase you. turn yr afterburner on and off to keep them within range of yr guns (was about 13km for me I think). use the shield booster if your under 50%. If your shields break warp out. Really, it was pretty simple and I did some level 2s in it too. I lost it eventually trying to do cosmos missions where I got eaten. Its a simple ship that works well when you get used to flying it. Oh just occured to me, your fit didnt have rigs. you should buy jury rigging skill book (train to 3) and shield rigging skill book (train to 1), it will take you less then a day to train those. then you can use core defense extenders to increase your shield amount and resist rigs to make them stronger.
Just in case you didnt know to do this and that its that simple to do. Great information from Hasikan, would just like to clarify a detail:
Hasikan Miallok wrote: Kiting (try and get in close and fly really fast so they cannot hit you).
Maybe it's just me but I've always understood kiting to be something different - basically when kiting you keep a distance from your target so that you are out of the effective range of their weapons but you are still able to take them down with your weapon systems (For a rail cormorant this would be a very valid tactic btw - you might want to carry some other kinds of ammo to give your more range so you can do this, yes it means you do less damage but if it allows you to survive it's worth it).
On the other hand flying fast to not get hit is really made up of two elements -
Speed tanking where you are moving fast enough that the enemy guns cannot track you effectively - note that this only works with guns and close to the enemy for high transversal velocity. Probably will not work very well with a cormorant. Speed tanking also has an effect on the damage done by missiles (iirc based on explosion velocity? I'm a bit hazy here) but anyhow - different for missiles.
Sig tanking - this is where the signature of your ship is so small it actually presents a hard target which is very hard to hit. In practice there are very few ways to change the signature radius of your ship (a few implants iirc) so this kind of tanking is really based on the ship you are flying. Smaller is always better and here is where the MWD comes into play because when you activate it, the MWD causes a signature bloom which greatly increases your signature radius causing you to become a much larger target. Especially in a relatively small ship this can cause quite a bit of additional damage to come your way. |

Great! Thank you all for the advice. I'm getting the skills for rigs atm and will concentrate on active tanking. And I'll dump the MWD for a simple AB. Wish me luck. :-)

Should you still have issues with that mission, join the HelpMyMission in-game channel and ask for help. Most likely someone will be in your vicinity and willing to help. |
