Truly sad to see you go Dr. EyjoG,
Your enthusiasm for the EVE Economy was a fantastic thing and will be missed. I hope this change comes from personal interests and not anything going wrong at CCP.
Here's hoping that your replacement can carry your torch even close to how high you carried it. |

Yeah, me too. Being Rector of a University is a really great step in a career I can see what you see not - vision milky then eyes rot. When you turn they will be gone - whispering their hidden song. |

The emaciated forms of all those that have not bowed to the will of CCGoon line the paths in the Valley of Dinsdale.
But remember, as it says in the Amarr Scriptures(Junip 2:17 if I remember correctly):
Even though I walk through the Valley of Dinsdale, I will fear no conspiracy, for he is crazy; his total lack of logic and general silliness, they comfort me. Wolfbane Hauler Inc Looking For Combat And Industrial Pilots |

Heart = broken. Up until recently, the only fanfest videos I watched were the economy ones. Totally over my head, but his talks were pretty much the first time I took any interest in economics.

Dr Eyjo was one of them, and he have done a great job. Why on earth would it not happen again? .
A serious lack of "frame of reference" for one. Nothing replaces years of experience of keeping your eyes on the numbers every day.
A new "economist", if not from within CCP already... will be severely "clueless" for a good long time. BE AFRAID of that.

Dr Eyjo was not working alone, if he is a man of science and very intelligent, than it should be clear that he appointed a successor in CCP. When weapons, technology, and economies mature faster than the leadership culture entrusted with them, disaster ensues. http://i.minus.com/ibeZ0sJewvDMBN.gif |

CCP should have offered him tenure. That'd make him stay. In fact, it might have enabled him to outlast the company itself.
Anyway, it's a good position to move to, and I can understand why he'd want to go for the chance, even if it's a potential loss for the game. For those who fear that none can take over, really? A good economist would add notes, explanations, graphs, context and all that to the work, not just so someone else can take over, but really so he can take a look at single instances a few years in the past and get a comprehensive understanding. Find me an economist who likes having to go back and recreate the data and rework it and reinterpret it and reinvent the wheel, and I'll point out that it's a student or theoretical researcher, not someone working in reality. For PolSci (My field) it's the same. A good analyst would have done the work as it happened or shortly thereafter, so that you wouldn't have to go through it all years later just to understand the exact context. And again, not for any successor. For yourself, so that you can use your past work efficiently.
Dr., I wish you all the best. |

the good of the community And popstars should be the guardians of moral virtue, by the same yardstick The doctors presentations at fanfest have always been my favorite. He is an absolutely awesome guy. He is one of those few people that actually "got EVE". I will never forget his childish joy when he showed and explained the consequences of any mayor fight, market manipulation or speculation. Oh Im not having a go at Dr Enjoy Im just saying that professional economists and the greater good arent seen as going hand in hand in the current era of RL

He wasn't really that high-profile in the CCP staff, so it's a bit difficult to coax my tear glands to squeeze some moisture out due to his departure. Still, not too happy about it either, but life moves on, I guess.
