It's only a few seconds, but it shows docking inside the station.
I though that was pretty cool.
Why we no have, CCP?

If it took even half a second longer than the current docking session change, the major response would be, "omfg give us a way to turn this crap off." |

Apples and honda civics. It has nothing to do with the rendering performance, but the actual play time of some stupid animation that will be tired and boring after the first 3 times you see it.
If it actually makes the docking process take longer, it's ****.
If you can cram the entire animation into the same length as the session change timer, fine, whatever. It's a low-impact use of dev resources, but other than that it's harmless enough. |

Docking should work as it does in Frontier: Elite 2. Without a docking computer to do it you crash into the station and it is game over. ^^^ lol that post is so bad you should get back 2 GBS m8 o7

Because "immersion" of any kind apparently makes the "core player base" twist in agony of LOLRPSPACEBARBIE.
CCP has painted itself into the corner, OP. Leave your hope at the door when logging ito EVE. Like, really. It's a mix of high school yard and a state prison converted into a series of spreadsheets.
And you've just dropped your soap in the midst of General Discussion. Again.
And yes, I loved to dock manually in Frontier :P

Immersion is fine.
Pointless fluff features are not.

I think they could easily do this without it being any longer than it is now... Your ship could move from the traffic area onto the docking ring while doing anything you always do, meanwhile the ship would get on top of the docking ring like it is shown in the video. Instead of the ship poping right in the middle and the camera moving away it could have the camera focused on the ship approaching the docking ring, but you could still able to do all the stuff. |

At the moment, docking & jump cloning are the only remaining jump-cuts in the game- it'd be nice to have those final two gaps bridged with cover animations.
However, docking especially, as an animation these must not last longer than the underlying transition. That's tantamount to unskippable cutscenes, which will drive people nuts given the frequency of the action. |

If anyone noticed, the UI was fully functional as the ship was docking into place. Exactly how much time was "lost?"

If they ever get around to finally redoing pos', and they go with the mooring idea of docking your ship, I hope there's an animation to it. |

I'd like to see my shop docked into the station from outside the station, perhaps some sort of umbilical. That way you use the already implemented space graphics as immersion, you can observe the ships outside the station (quite sensible), etc.
Bottom line, I'd like windows to see space from my apartment in a station, or just don't bother. |

If it was actually interesting/cool, or had things actually worth looking at, people woudlnt mind as much.
kinda like the warp gate effects, its just THERE, theres nothing interesting going on, its a grey tunnel. |

I'd love to see more realistic docking and undocking, that said I'd LOVE to see less reasons that force you dock/undock.
Honestly besides hiding from ships outside the station that will blast you to pieces just about everything should be doable close to the station without the pointless forced dock.

I gives two shakes of a donkey's tail about making Eve pretty. Yes I like the new stars and planets but you can only look at it so much. It's getting now where graphics are actually making the game play worse for some. I don't play to look at pretty things... I play to KILL!
Fix the game play issues first... The last thing I want is a really good looking game that sucks! |

Always hated the instant dock features of players flashing in and out of space several times within a minute. It's not realistic and it's annoying.
Realistic docking would not only help with immersion, but it'd also open up the potential for flying around those open hangar spaces which would be fun and EXPAND the gameplay.
However as people have pointed out, the fun immersive nature of EVE is confined to a hard cover book these days and the noisy playerbase will reject any of it being represented in-game.
And yes, I used to land on planet and dock manually in Elite and Elite 2: Frontier. Remember this. Trust your eyes, you will kill each other. Trust your veins, you can all go home. -Cold Wind |

It could be done with a quick animation similar to the gate animation. Just shoving a camera flight into or out of the docking area should be fast enough to not add any additional loading time. Sovereignty and Population New Mining Mechanics |

I wouldnt mind the docked view being a little more realistic than a ship floating on antigrav over a bottomless pit with no space to possibly work on the ship, offload the cargo or do anything that happens in a normal station hangar.

Yeah cos there was so much to do in those flyable hangars in the X series. A space car park would be super-fun to hang out in.
