Eve is currently lacking a realistic gang loot system.
In most other MMORPGs, loot when in a gang/group/party is distributed evenly to all members of the group, with loot being flagged to a certain gang/group/party member at the time of drop.
Eve is also currently lacking a realistic use for the Charisma skill.
Proposal: Add a new skill called "Gang Looting" which increases the chance of being assigned loot while participating in gang combat.
This wouldn't have to be excessive, just a little bit. =)
Example:
Joe (Gang Loot Skill = 0) Bob (Gang Loot Skill = 5) Mary (Gang Loot Skill = 2)
Total Gang Looting = 7/3 = 2.3 levels
Something drops...
Bob has a 33%+(5-2.3%)= 35.7% chance Mary has a 33% (2-2.3)% = 32.6% chance Joe has a 33% - 2.3% = 31.7% chance
Thoughts?

Yeah, in Anarchy Online it's called Team Loot Alpha or Team Loot Leader, and it S U X !!!
What's wrong in all members able to take all cans? If you can't agree on the sharing of loot, don't fly together!

OP should join a corp so he knows how looting actually works.

I don't like OP's idea, but it did steer me toward something for a real charisma fix.
The problem right now is that there just aren't enough skills that charisma effects. Why not add a new skill that increases your drops slightly. I don't know how the internals of the loot system work, but adding a skill that increased drops by, say, 4% per level, would be handy, and give people with high charisma (like mine) something fun to train.
I see it as a natural extension of the negotiation skill. The more cha-based skills they can add, the better. ------ It's time for some F*@&*#g soup. -- Syfe |

Seems that charisma would be the last attribute to effect loot drops. If anything, it would be perception (more likely to notice things), intelligence (smart, you can work out where to look for loot in the hulk), or memory (in this type of ship, there was something here last time, lets look again).
I think its wrong to just randomly assign a skill to an attribute, there needs to be a connection between the abilities.

/lmao Basing loot on anything other than random luck is pretty retarded and would be very unfair. What happens with the characters who are only interested in combat careers?

tbh I cant understand why Spaceship Command does not have Charisma as primary attribute. Its not like we are flying the ships in a small*****pit with a joystick :P -----

I disagree with OP's idea because I think that it would complicate things. If it were implemented, it would be difficult to share loot. All loot would have to be compiled from various owners at the end and any player-created loot sharing systems would be void. The difference between EVE and most MMORPGs is that groups of players are not formed purely by chance, and that groups of players stick together for a long time. You don't see people spamming local with "4-man gang looking for 7Mil SP tanking BS!!!!!!", now do you? Most people will find a fair way to share loot in EVE, probably because it is more profit-minded than experience-minded (no EXP can be gained from killing NPCs (unlike many games that incorporate this)).

Why put this into an artifical, abstracted system? A group should handle loot based on its own needs. I like keeping it in the hands of players.
But I do agree that charisma needs more skills.

I was kicking around the idea of taunt/detaunt skill lines for ratting. If there were something like that, Charisma would be the natural choice for a primary stat.

Yeah lets make it char based!? I was in lev 4 mission ganged with 3 ravens 1 cara and i was in kessy. So we bookmarked all the loot places and when mission was over everybody went away i went looting . There was like 2 cans of mine(managed too kill some frigs) Point is that if i dont kill stuff whit my gangmates how can i have more loot when my char is hi? Like they kill them all and i get loot for standing back?

To poster: Attributes do not effect anything but training time.
The best way to deal with loot is either role for it(not really in this game). or go alphabetically by loot can.
Both are really lame, so just get some quality friends and agree upon a way to split it. i.e. sell it and split the profits |

Edited by: 4 LOM on 07/06/2006 13:13:47 Stupid idea, if you are flying with a bunch of 12 year old kids that have no idea how to share and get along then you need to find a new corp to fly with. Generaly loot distribution is decided bye everyone in the gang, if you need it you get it or if you lost a ship you get it. or failing that someone sells the fancy loot and splits the isk.
I have never fealt cheated flying pvp or npcing with a group about what loot i got, The thing with eve is you generaly dont fly with idiots (you think are idiots) or gerks because thats how you end up dead so you never encounter a problem with loot sharing.
Charisma needs to be fixed yes, and it slowly is (they are slowly adding skills), but not with such a silly idea. EVE has some feeling of reality, if loot drops and you cant take it because its not flaged to you then thats really bloody stupid. I love that in eve if i want to shoot someone in a high sec system or take there loot can or what ever i can, nothing says i cant. I may day because concord or the person shoots back but as soon as you take away the ability to do that it just seems wrong, and fake.
Edit: just worked a 12h shift... my spelling and grammer are crap i know.
