I've read that having a skill queue, or being able to train two skills was being considerd, or at least already suguested. Another Idea I had was if when a skill finished training it would automaticaly start training the next level of that same skill, until it completes level V. After that the skill training would stop, and the player would have to manually switch to the next skill. In this way the risk of losing training time is reduced, but one still has to login to change the skill. One would also still be able to switch skill training at any time as normal.
Opinions?? comments?? Be constructive please.

Edited by: Kannteir on 04/06/2006 23:10:53 This is one of the best ideas i have seen in a long time, I mentioned it to the rest of our coporation and they all loved it too! It wouldn't be too hard to do, right? __________________________________________

this is a nice idea, though if implemented should be optional.
strictly speaking, yes, i would like all my skills at lvl 5 but for the time being i dont plan on training every skill i get to 4 to lvl 5. and i would be a tad miffed if i got even a few SP's past 4 and then have to change skill.
*shrugs* (would be good for those newbs who dont know what CHANGE TO A LONG SKILL DURING PATCH DAY FFS means.) --

Install eve and change your skill, even with 64MB of ram you should be able to get a skill change window up if you wait long enough.
Or go to a friends or something.

the dev's are thinking of dual skill training both at half rate till one completes then the remaining one at full spead.

I like this idea and have seen it mentioned a couple of times. At least you wouldn;t be so worried if you missed a skill ending due to work or such. Some people may be on call out and would not be able to change their skill when it ended. If they were training level 4, at least they know that part of level 5 would be trained by the time they could get back and change it to something else themselves.
Patchdays and such wouldn't be such a problem, set a level4 running and if the servers have to be taken down for an unscheduled DT just as it ends, at least ppl won't lose training time.

I like the idea, if you forgot to change the skill before you went to work, bed or school and it finished, the idea of it continuing on to the next level appeals to me. Would save a lot of heart ache for most players.

Well I do have to throw a spanner in the works, the idea is sound, however its just for lazy people who can't be bothered to plan their own skills and want the computer to do everything for them.
Whats the hassle of either setting a long skill time if you go on holiday, or a short one if you are playing?
This game is already geared towards a skill based system, if this happens then no-one will log on at all, just let the computer do everything and next time they log on, after 3 months of not playing they will have L5 in all skills - i hope not!!!!

Curse you and your bloody spanner wa*ker!
-not everyone is unemployed. -not everyone is a teenager out of school -not everyone who is working can access Eve (without the big bad wolf kicking their *ss) -not everyone appreciates being called 'lazy' you spanner thrower.
-not everyone remembers to stagger their training so that every skill completes when they have access to the glory that is Eve.
-not everyone knows wtf a "spanner" is heh.
-most every part of this post is meant in a humorous light - Festloid, no offense intended.

A spanner is... um... it spans, yeah.
/signed for this idea. Many, many of us have demanding work schedules that require us to leave at unexpected times, or stay for hours longer, or work for such a stretch that several skills can complete themselves before we'd get home from one single shift.
This is the only idea I've read that can be implemented exactly as proposed, no changes, no additions, nothing. Devs, to the Dev-Cave. Your public needs you!

This is a great idea, mentioned before of not!
This will help a lot of people with staying up late/waking up early just to change a skill or risk losing skill time. Also prevent unexpected work schedules and make it easy for people. I wouldn't mind to get some extra points on the next skill level but would definitely mind losing them!
Go Devs!

it would be nice, even if it was 2 skills training simultaniously, that would be great, a long term and a short term skill

But actually I don't want it.
Guess why ? The same reason why there are no slim people in co_ckaigne

The idea would be to have it only span one skill level. If you start lvl1, it will go on to lvl2 only then stop when that has finished.
Reason: As it's been stated in previous answers. Work schedules, players getting delayed (driving is fun at rush hour). Call out, held back at work, unscheduled DT, power outages, ISP servers offline and so on. There must be a hundred reasons beyond sheer lazyness that prevent people getting online to set a new skill when it finishes.
Rather than let them lose that time, allow it to roll over an extra one level. If the power or whatever went out while they were online training a level 1, no sweat, at least part of level 2 is going to be done by the time you return. I wouldn't expect to set it running at level 1 and then come back when level 5 is done, that makes it too easy for character farmers. That one extra level gives everyone a buffer to fall back on.
How many posts do we see on these boards from noobs complaining about lost training time after patchday outages? Not everyone has a 4 or 5 day skill they can set, most noob skills may last hours at most. Rank1 lvl2 is about 1 hour, maybe 2 hours at most with low attribs. At least they get part, if not all of level 3 as well and no cause to complain.

I think "train until lvl 5 is complete" is too much, I would rather see the queued skills, but that you can only queue one skill after the actual. Like that you can train 2 levels in a row without having to login, but it would stop after that. Eve is still a game ment being played

I like the idea, but also would like to propose this one: if the dev-team does not approve of queueing skills or auto-training till max. level, please consider an option where you can set the skill you train from within a browser instead of the EVE client (in 'My character' for instance), ince many of us have EVE on their private PC's but during working hours have to work on a work PC (thus no client installed). This would at least partially solve the problem, without the endless discussion of queueing etc. What do you guys think of that? |

Broswer based has been stated quite categorically by devs that it will never happen. It encourages character farmers since they would only have to log in to get skill books and start off the first level. After that, they can train every level from the browser without even playing the game.
Having the second level buffer helps those who cannot for some reason get online to change it. Only one level is hardly going to break anything. Trying to find a skill that ends just when you can get online is really hard, especially at later levels when you are looking at days or weeks to finish a skill. Some people who work flexi hours don't even know by then if they will be working when the skill ends. In my last job, I didn't know until 3 days before what hours I would be working on a given day.
The dual training system the devs have devised is good in some ways, esp for lower skilled players but there are times when I need a skill ASAP, training at half speed is no good in those instances. It's also no good if you are training one that is a prerequisite for another that you will run next, you can't run them both together.

/signed, but with one prerequisite. If your account isn't active, the skill won't jump to the next level. This will prevent people from setting a lvl 1 rank 14 skill or so to train and deactivating the account.

Edited by: TuRtLe HeAd on 09/06/2006 09:01:24 No. it would mean that u start level 1 going then never log in for 30+ days until you get to level 5, its been suggested may a time before, and means theres little reason to log into the game
BUT
Heres a twist on the idea. What if !
When a skill finishes training. 1 Random skill from your skill set starts training automatically. At least then you dont lose out on skill training time. Even if it does go into a skill you stopped training due to a change in gameplay.
