Personally I thought it to be a very good article and one that I could relate to as I was reading, though not normally a Guardian reader I have added the title to one that I will explore from now on. Everything that demonstrates the pure beauty of Eve is to be celebrated. Nice post :)

Ralph and Ramona. The article may not, in your eyes, be wonderful journalism but any exposure, particularly positive exposure like this, is worth its weight in AUR.
I just thought that it was interesting to see such coverage on a major game in one of the leading UK broadsheets.

Hate to break it to you Ramona, but they do, you'd be surprised how many people have tabs open at work or while traveling consisting of news sites, blogs and other media platforms. Seeing these articles puts a smile on my face, because they tend to highlight the journalist's surprise regarding the qualities of Eve and it's community, it's great to see this as it shows that despite Eve's social and interactive brutality, there is another side of the coin which people who did not know otherwise, may in fact enjoy. Regardless of the some spin that may be put on it, Eve getting just a little spotlight can be healthy for us and it's universe. |

Just because a lot of people do something, that does not mean there is any merit in that thing.
The recent elections being a case in point.
If you want to do something of value, start by convincing people to stop reading filth, or if you can ban it from your office. "A naughty sarcastic nun that's come to whip me with a ruler." - Domanique Altares "As Ramona previously mentioned, that is correct." --áISD Supogo |

Its the Independent, a paper bought for -ú1 by a Russian oligarch so his clueless fuckwit of a son had a "business" to run.
It hasn't been "Independent" since then and is noted for its plagiarist "journalists", pro-Russian editorials and general cluelessness about news in general.
Less people buy the Independent than are logged into TQ on a normal day (they actually give away more copies of the paper than they sell) so its going to do absolutely sweet **** all for Eve. |

Fair enough, Othran, and your points are valid.
But as long as Robert Fisk contributes I will read it and that's the sole reason now that the racing coverage has fallen off to a mere footnote.
You mention bias in the news reporting; this may well be so. However, I do have to say that the football reporting is thankfully shy of the normal media Manchester United bias.
Alas, here in the foothills of Pen Ll++n no-one is dishing out the newspaper for free.

No need to buy the Indy for Fisk, he has his own blog (http://robertfiskonline.com/).
Indy was a decent paper maybe 15 years ago (I know Andreas Whittam Smith - original editor - personally) but since the Lebedevs (Alexander is ex-KGB just like Putin) took over its basically a newspaper with no news, just columnist viewpoints & arseholes like Owen Jones/Johann Hari spouting plagiarised crap.
In short its total crap, just like the London Evening Standard (also free BTW).
Still at least it doesn't have the egregious (& odious) Polly Toynbee working there so things could be worse

Hwyl
Other than one extremely well connected journalist working at the Daily Mail can you enlighten me on the "normal" Manchester United bias you allude too from other newspapers ? ..and that is not to say that he (journo) is actually biased but that he is an actual supporter who consistently produces factual and insightful media insights unto his passion regarding all things United.
(Manchester United season ticket holder since 1979, Have watched United play on 4 different continents and am approaching 2000 games attended, have visited each and every football league ground currently active in the UK with the exception being the newly promoted Fleetwood Town's Highbury stadium, another exception to this would be the old Brighton and Hove Albion stadia but that stadia was abandoned and since then I have visited the "Withdene" if that is of any consolation and also a great many of Europe's more famous venues)
For me, all positive coverage of all things Eve online is a good thing and as I stated earlier I did enjoy the read.

> Faenir. My comment wasn't based at the club, its fans or whatever. Just the media. I have nothing but respect for your team; after all who wouldn't when growing up when you had the likes of Charlton, Law, Best and my all time hero, Nobby.
That'a my credentials out of the way. I view football, like i do racing, with a level head. I wouldn't be able to make a living from punting if I went around with red tinted glasses or, as some I know, hate the club for no good reason. With these sort of 'sports fans' I won't discuss sport.
The papers. You will recall that dreadful day for yourself when you were turned over at home last season by Newcastle United. I watched the game on Sky and it was clear that there was one team in it, and it wasn't the home side. For the home supporters it was nothing but unbearable to watch. The only surprise resulting from that match was that Moyes wasn't shown the door before the day was over.
That evening I made the mistake of watching MotD, which is now based in Salford. The edited highlights of the game was nothing like what went on that afternoon. The editing of the match made it look as if it were Manchester United all over Newcastle United and that the away team won by lucky goals. A lot of neutral fans complained about the editing of the match.
Next day I was in the local coffee shop and I went through all of the red tops. The coverage of the Mirror summed it up perfectly; there were three pages of the match report, it screamed on the back pages. Well, take away the very large photo which covered most of the columns and there was room for a few hundred words. Not one word, and I mean this, mentioned Newcastle at all other than the scoreline at the top of the article. The goals weren't mentioned, the fact that Newcastle actually for once dominated the midfield got not one single word. The other red tops were similar.
I can understand why, to some extent, Sky and the papers have a leaning towards the Big Four (whomever they may be this year and that there may be five or six Big Four teams) because they will sell more papers and more satellite dishes if they 'big up' these teams rather than show the positives of the likes of Stoke City and Crystal Palace.
This isn't a reflection of your club, the players or the supporters who have nothing to do with all of this or, worse, get tarred by the media bias brush. But the fact remains that the media will push for the bigger clubs and if a smaller club overturns one of these clubs, particularly if the larger club is at home, then the feat is almost considered a fluke.
Like I say, this isn't a reflection on you, your fellow fans or the clubs but it's comment on the reporting in the media.
Good luck for next season.

This one was better. Shock announcements: Hilmar confirms he's 'basically a janitor' and wizard hat admits to being 'a huge geek'. Oh and the top comment is banging on about Ayn Rand, maybe its Dinsdale. Pleases me to see these pop up on mainstream news sites, especially fairly accurate articles like that.
