Every few weeks I read another post about how unfair the R&D system in EvE is, so often now that I cant help but think about it myself.
Now sorry if this offends anyone but im noticing two distinct types of people being quite vocal for a change to R&D. (The group who whine because they never got lucky and got a T2 BPO, and the group who already have T2 BPO's and want to be able to get more.)
Has anyone stopped to think that the current system of "luck" is the ONE area of EvE where you can't grind your way to success? Its the last bastion of hope for the new guy to get a thrust forward in EvE, not to mention our last stand against jobless bums and bunking school kids from being becoming the mega rich in EvE simply because they spend so much time on it.
The second you make people able to influence R&D to the way the whiners want, one of two things will happen.
1: So many T2 BPO's will end up in circulation that the T2 will totaly devalue where it will more than likely hit the producers at the bottom of the chain rather than those at the top.
2: All the T2 BPO's will end up in the hands of the same few peoeple propelling them to a state of mega wealth because they were always the first to grind their way to the print before anyone else. This will once againend up with a bunch of people whining because they keep getting beaten to the prints by the same people.
I just cant see how changing the system can benifit EvE as a whole..

This is the way it is now. The vast majority of the people getting the prints have multiple research characters pulling RP's in the fields they want. Basically, it's the more toons you have researching the higher your chance of getting the bpo's you want.
Heck, even I thought of using the spare character slots to make characters dedicated to research, but haven't because it'd put my timeline for various other things off in order to do it.

Yea but its like buying a lottery ticket. Sure you got more chance the more you have but at the end of the day its still down to luck plain and simple.

Because "research" should actually have something to do with goddamn research?
I'm all for having an effort in the T2 crap. Make people solve riddles and assembly puzzles and that sort of stuff to increase the chances of winning.

T2 BPOs are a free bottomless wallet in most cases, and teh lottery serves to discourage producers who lack them. After all, what's the point of training your skills to build T2 stuff you can't ever hope to get a BP for?
What this does is limit production to the few lucky and/or rich enough to obtain the BPOs, and compel the rest of us to put our production efficiency certification in the back of our wallet and go out ratting and mission running for a living.

Snort. Less than 1% of T2 BPO's are "ISK printers". Te vast majority will NEVER earn anyone except a dedicated producer any ISK, hence they are sold.
All that allowing grinding to win BPO's does is allow the producers to not even PAY for their T2 BPO's.

My own opinion is that R&D should be changed not because it's unfair but because it's boring. 99.9% of the time research is completely uneventful, even for the lucky winners. You talk to your agent once to start research, and (with luck) once again in a few weeks or months to pick up your BPO. In between there's nothing to do except watch your RP tally increase and maybe do those dreary R&D courier missions if you're really dedicated. I'd rather see something happening that involves thought and activity on my part, rather than just sitting and waiting, even if nothing comes of it in the end.

Hello all,
I can agree with the changes to the T2 R&D system. Basically, what they've been thinking of implementing from what I've heard is to make RPs work like LPs, in that you can spend them for this cheap BPO or save them up for a better BPO.
This would improve the system drastically IMHO, while still not making it so that people can have the uber BPOs. They might even implement BPCs of the better items, allowing a limited run of the highest-value stuff like ships and all.
