- 10. Eve is windows friendly, unlike EQ that would not allow alt-tabbing
- 9. Eve has a well balanced PvP system, unlike EQ where if you opted to become a PK on a non PK server, you were isolated from everyone else
- 8. Eve Loads up incredibly fast, unlike EQ that took forever to load graphics of lesser quality.
- 7. Eve has its own built in music that you could select and play, or opt out of playing altogether.
- 6. Eve doesn't have "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..."
- 5. Eve has the best science fiction remote skill learning system I've ever seen.
- 4. When Eve crashes, it doesn't take down your entire operating system with it.
- 3. Eve is all played on a single server, so you never have to worry about friends accidentaly starting a character on a different server.
- 2. Eve doesn't pretend to give meaningless quests that are static repetitions of a political vacuum.
- 1. In Eve, your actions do affect the ongoing storyline, that storyline being the lives and fates of your fellow players.

Slightly disagree with a few points but I love Eve!
After the patch our relationship was rough but now, Eve is sleeping in the same bed as me, touching my no-no places.

you are right, eve doesnt have "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..." but it does have tuning in on sub-space frequency. it is basically the same thing =)

I love EVE, but you got it all wrong.
Quote: 10. Eve is windows friendly, unlike EQ that would not allow alt-tabbing
Not on my system, which is running XP Pro. If I alt-tab, I can get to windows, but EVE crashs or "bugs out" if I try to get back to it.
Quote: 9. Eve has a well balanced PvP system, unlike EQ where if you opted to become a PK on a non PK server, you were isolated from everyone else
OK, guess you didn't noticed how PK's can't go into empire space, where the majority of players are.
Quote: 6. Eve doesn't have "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..."
EVE doesn't have those words exactly, but it does have loading screens.
Quote: 5. Eve has the best science fiction remote skill learning system I've ever seen.
It's not bad but I've seen better.
Quote: 4. When Eve crashes, it doesn't take down your entire operating system with it.
I have had crashs that have totally crashed my system while using EVE
Quote: 2. Eve doesn't pretend to give meaningless quests that are static repetitions of a political vacuum.
I'd like some quests so I can fight big bad guys when my other enemies aren't online and so I can get neat items.
Some of your other points were good though, I'll give you that.

But how do you feel about chain spawning being nerfed?
Doesn't that kill the Zezman maneuver?

Yep, I love EVE. Im having fun just collecting minerals at the moment.
I love the way you can play for just 1hr a day (or less) and still have fun and keep up (in skill terms).

Hey, I think the original poster's point was that EVE does not talk to you as if it's a program on your computer, but as if it really was a ship commander's interface. Of course there will be load screens, progress bars etc., but they can be more or less IC (for a program?). --- Implement forum search already!!! |

Back on topic - I love eve too. I hate whiners. Why can't people deal with the fact that there is no such thing as the perfect game? Its not hard, you just sit there and tell yourself
"NOTHING IS PERFECT"

My wife and I both love EVE.
We play it like hamsters hitting the feeder bar EVERY night.
She mines and chats, I mine and occasionally blow stuff up.
Stability has never been an issue so I can't complain about that.
It does have a loading screen but they try to role play it so that's cool.
The player correspondents thing has the potential to be really cool as CCP is trying to incorporate player content into the overall story arc. Nothing like getting to write your own book.
The coming content (More jovians, elite frigates, player stations, mobile refineries, new tech etc.) has me really excited too. --------------
Share the love in the SNIGG Forums

pirates spawn weird now- you can have two sets in one belt but you can still chain kill if your lucky :)
if they ever considered nerfing this i would go mad. you can only make decent profit by chain killing.

Yeah I saw a rage filled post by Zezman complaining about it being nerfed also, and threatening to quit.
This new improved Zezman who seems to think EvE is all that, all of a sudden, is contradicting himself.
I also notice he is no longer using the sig he so proudly displayed previously.
Perhaps this is not the original Zezman, and just a new fanboy owner.

11. seeing, and then occasionally interacting with someone on the forums for *years* dating to early beta, then thru beta then release... then one day finding yourself sitting in the same station as them, and you realize it's the first time in all that time that you've been in the "same place," ever.
that's pretty darn cool.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Zez,
I see what you're saying; it's a different genre, but...
I played EQ for about a year. It's a miserable reptile of an existance. Whats more, it took me 52 levels to realise it. In my "Top 10 things I like about EVE"
1) EVE is, in most parts, eye candy. EQ looks like a mud-puddled mongrel with a bell on it's collar.
2) In EVE, the bad guys don't look like some sad schoolkid dancing to the Happy Mondays after soiling his pants. (Go to Highkeep and kill Goblins)
3) There is no "Autopilot" in EQ.
4) There is an element of risk in EVE to keep the old ticker going. Lets face it, on EQ if you're not on a PVP server, it's hardly nerve wracking stuff
5) I could go on.... but you get the general idea.
I liked EQ for a while. EVE made me see sense. Lets just hope it stops crashing soon and silly patches become sensible. Not that EQ was innocent there either....

They should use a line like that in a film, sounds amazing ;)

Try running in Window Mode. My application will crash too if I am running in full-screen mode when I alt-tab. In Window Mode it works fine (for Window Mode press escape, and look under the graphics tab I believe). You may have to fiddle with the screen resolution on your desktop and Eve to get Eve to run in a window of convenient size for your monitor.

I am still the same Zezman. I think the host I was using for the sig banner got wise to it, so I deleted the link before they replaced my sig image with something ***.
