New players can do very little to accelerate their character progression. EveMon and careful planning donGÇÖt sound like much fun. You're kidding, right? The has NEVER, in all of it's history, been as forgiving to new players as it is right now. If that feels "punishing", it's because other games are too banal and easy. They let you replace actually knowing a damned thing about the game with running the rat wheel to reach level 90, or whatever. The concept of "accelerated progression" is a hateful, poisonous themepark game concept, and has no place in EVE or anything else purporting to be a sandbox. And the "modern gamers" can go jump in a lake, by the way. I play this game precisely because the mechanics of EVE drive people like that away. If I want a 14 year old kid screaming at me about how he defiled my mother, I can go play X-Box Live with the rest of the *******. That kind of mainstream crap is available everywhere, but there's only one refuge for me, there is only one EVE. So stop trying to gum it up with all the lowest common denominator crap. Exclusivity is a good thing. In fact it's a great thing. Oh well, things are pretty much okay then. As an outsider I am just sadly mistaken. And apart from the elite crowd playing Eve Online all the other gamers are just 14-year-old idiots, screaming and spewing profanities. I guess I'll just come back in a year or two when more changes of the kind announced this year have happened.
PS: A cosmos theme park game raised $4 million within 39 days so there is a demand for cosmos simulators and I think such information didn't go below the CCP radar. The price of getting money like that? Changes I guess. |

This.
What you are asking for is for CCP to pull a Star Wars Galaxies, alienate their loyal core playerbase, and kill their game.

Most new players don't stick with EVE because they think of all MMOs in terms of themepark MMOs. That the game doesn't "begin" until max level and everything between new character and level 5 everything is just tutorial.
This has been a "problem" since EVE launched.
The only way to solve this problem is by either:
- Redesigning EVE from the ground up to better conform to the expectations of people who's only experience with MMOGs is world of warcraft
- Figure out a way to force people to leave their preconceptions at the door and teach them how to make their own content/goals.
Once someone figures out how to do either of the aforementioned without destroying the game, call CCP. Then Nobel, as you've made a pretty amazing discovery.
Which is all to say the primary problem here is an endemic problem with with mainstream gaming in general. The demographics that were only attracted to video games once the video game industry started spending billions of dollars a year on marketing aren't the type of demographics to really embrace anything new or different unless what is new or different is being advertised during the superbowl. The above was written and posted with nothing but love in my heart for all. |

I'm a new player, but I already love EVE. The game is what you make it - for yourself and with others. The majority of content in New Eden is not meant to be a venture of solitude.
Instead of devoting a bigger node to prevent TiDi, how about capping the number of players in the fight... This doesn't really sit well with the massive fleet fights EVE is known for and prides itself on.
...Also allowing the owners to turn off the gate all together. If you'd follow news and updates for EVE like any other legitimate fan, you'd know that CCP has plans to make all structures player built, including jump gates. I'm quite sure that would introduce a level of system control that EVE has yet to see.
Fixing the damn code so the entire game can be in the same system... I can't even fathom the scale of what you are suggesting - hundreds of systems and their associated assets altogether in one 'instance' without jump gates or load times?
Stop catering to the big coalitions. Make your own and topple the beasts.
I die in new player systems, I get scammed in new player systems. No, you die in EVE, you get scammed because you fail to read and re-check things, or have no common sense in the MMO environment. New players are given warning in abundance about the dangers of New Eden in Rookie Chat and other player-run help channels.
TL;DR Goodbye belly-aching OP, here's hoping you find a game more to your liking.

Call me jaded but players leaving to scams....are not really a loss. This game requires some brain power to play. Not much, but some lol.
Lets go with the common scams I see in jita.
I will buy 2 plex for over the price of current market. Hmmm, they need 2 plex bad. Its on sale for X on market. They a saying in local they will pay x+100 mil. this is a sign.
Then they want to get trade window. A second sign. Why are they trading when....the plex is on the market at x.
third sign is they are spamming every 5 seconds for this deal. You see normal folks go to jita, buy their plex and gtfo....I am a 5 year bitter vet...I remember when I got plex for less than 300 mil. Going on a plex run for me is like going to a dentist these days. Its painful...and I pay lots of money for that pain. All I ask is my time in the chair is over as soon as possible.
Or they have a contract for it where basic reading skills will show you are getting 1.7 mil and not 1.7 bil. Reading is fundamental. Especially on contracts...the scam or real deal is all there. If you take a few damn seconds to read and work it out. |

A piece of poetry about what may happen if Eve Online changes. Or not
Quote:I imagine it sometimes. This dark and stormy night. Down the road apiece. Perhaps twenty years or so from now. New Eden has dwindled, gotten old and tired. So many new things have come along, shiny worlds, new challenges. The server numbers have dwindled down to the hundreds. It isn't unusual to go days without bumping into another human in space.
One by one the Star Gates closed, locking off region after region. Pushing the hard-core into smaller and smaller spaces in an effort to maintain the illusion. The server chugs along. Three or four days a month the server goes down. No one complains. The forums are quiet. Reddit remains silent. |

People are leaving EVE because it doesn't guide them on rails through all the content, holding their hand and telling them "you can do this, and you can do that, and there a thing over here you can do". In short, it's not theme-parky enough for them.
Those people are also turned off by EVE's refusal to indulge their self-entitlement and instant gratification issues. |

EvE is EvE... a cold, harsh place that will drive players away who can't handle it. Those who throw off the aspect of the weak, wobbly whiner will be here forever.
I love EvE, and will play it until the server shuts down. That is a bit idealistic, but there it is.
Without changing the deep foundation of EvE harshness, development has given, given, and compromised in a major effort to keep players. I applaud them for their efforts, but they can only go so far before they break this beautiful work of art.
As long as we have enough players to keep CCP in business and developing EvE in all its bloody glory... I'm satisfied.

I don't see why anyone would worry about players leaving the game, TBH. Discussion of CCP's income is a moot point - EVE grows in subs every year exactly by being the game it is. If you change that, you change the core, you lose players. This is-á a signature. |

+1 Same, a rifleman here, liked my a-wing. It was a very agile ship back then :( I also got my +40 quality station for 1 million in-game currency and I was crafting my own nice quality rockets ^.^ That was a nice game.
However, whenever I brought up anything about pve security missions' improvement, I was hammered into pieces in-between "this is a pvp [combat] game, pve is good as it is" arguments. Some people are so scared about the ISK that missioners earn and they are doing everything to prevent any single improvement on solo-missioning. I got bored of pve [sec missions] after lots of years doing same stuff all over again, decided to move into null, now my only option is to do some mining and even lesser combat options because my isk income is now much smaller.
Around these days, only thing I do is to log-in and put some skills into my skill queue, then log out. IRL friends called me into wildstar, checking that out currently. Also waiting for SC. I'm not at "I will leave this game!" point, but I am being forced into trying some other games out because of boredom I had. Half the lies they tell about me aren't true. |

Pleole will stop leaving. 1) It's a only an assumption that they are leaving just because of that. You don't have to have a blue blood flowing through your veins to be able to pay 10$/month for a game. That could force some multiboxers to unsubscribe some part of their alt army, but this is, I'm certain, is a good thing anyway. 2) This is simply a wishfull desire, which will in fact harm those, who buy these PLEXes for real money and need them to cover their expenses ingame. And their profits is a way more important than inconviniences of those who buy it for isk, cause former pay with real cash and thats they who actually suport the project.

Just my opinions: Pvp content and combat is very successful in this game. Only some balance and new stuff once in a while would keep that current. Mission content is extremenly outdated and repetitive and has a huge room for improvement. Improve pve aspects in this game a lot then players, who earns lots of money from missions start to shift into pvp because they will have spare ISK to spend to.
Successfull business suggests and proves that within time, feeding solo missioners more ISK than they need to would make them invest their in-game currency into purchasing pvp stuff, and you'll see that some of the leavers turn back and start to fight against you in somewhere in the space... Missions need lots of love and additions... Believe it or not. Half the lies they tell about me aren't true. |

Like jester says (kinda), only 15% of eve's content is good. The rest is plain boring. Thats why noone stays. And the themepark part. Its just easier to be in a themepark, thats maybe even free to play, than in an expensive sandbox. Most people dont even understand sandboxes.
Btw, i find it kinda bad to advertise eve through its massive super fights. They just see the good stuff about those fights, but not the utter boredom of total tidi. And yes, tidi is a total problem, which made me leave 0.0 forever. Okay, tidi is better then black screens and crashes, but it still sucks. And the only way to fix it, would be more server power. Not stuff like a player cap per system. That cant work, CFC will just bridge in all their people.
Well, how can we hold more real players and not just someday being 100 players with 1000 alts? Content that is actually fun and not just something thats there. 0.0 = GOONS = SAAAMMMMEEE!!!!1111222 |

With all due respect, this won't work like that You know, even now any mission runner can earn around 1-3kkk pet month with some trash fits and running 4 lv agents (I intentionally don't touch blitzing, incursions, all forms of null/wh PvE as such offer profits squezed from those are even larger). If you give them more they just will buy more officer stuff for those money, or plex some more alts to do missions faster. It's not a matter of funds at all.

I had to add "successful business that has 12mil. subscription game has" part.
I'm more on the "addition" side rather than redesign. Because, when you have money to purchase officer stuff, those who kills officers (pvp/null sec ppl) will also benefit from earning more isk. When a missioner's ship is full of officer stuff. It will also attract unwanted attention. If it dies, it need to be gathered again! If it lives and does missions, earning more than enough, then owner will naturally start investing money into pvp combat since there is simply nothing better place for him to be from missioning perspective.
Not everyone invests their income on more alts/5 year ahead plexes... However, I don't refuse that they're not exist. Those who are doing it are living on the extremes. How many team-cubes can be counted at the end of the day? ^^ Half the lies they tell about me aren't true. |
