After having a large battle last night I have come to the conclusion eve cant handle large battles one bit. Its a shame really ruins the game. I for one am going to be sticking to small skirmish battles as its the only thing this game can handle. But the thing is even they are becoming to laggy these days. I for one am sticking to small fights only now as any battle with more then 6 ships is just unplayable. ----------------------- ╔╤╗╒╕╔╕║║/ ║│║╘╛║╘╝║\ ----------------------- |

Sutty I know you try hard to make good flames but monk wasnt there at other battle afaik which could explain it.
For what its worth I thought the battle was quite lag free, but then again ive seen some VERY laggy battles indeed. --

Hell, eve can't take mining because of lag, eve can't take trade channel because of lag, and you think with those big flashing lights combat would be less laggy..?

I was there and it was like watching a Power Point presentation.
I dont flame and I dont care I lost a ship , well done to Zeus and whoever else killed me but I am sincere when I say that I will not be sticking around for anymore such battles if lag is like that.
Ive honestly not experienced it that bad before have been in some fairly large battles.
Flame on !! So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

The only viable activity is Exploiting the Market Demand, that and Agent mission, with the current lag, by the time I complete a mission while docked, CTD, relog, check the market, CTD again, relog, get bumped out of station, try redocking, ctd... relog... the next mission is availalbe :)

It was my main reason to join this game: Large combat between large corporations, units of 100 against 100 fight each other... Modules become less important but strategic movement becomming fital...
Im still waiting for the client to improve so were atleast able to see 30 ships at one belt together maybe __________________________

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 26/09/2003 20:49:58 I¦ll just try to make this thread a bit more constructive
What type of lag was it you guys experienced? Was it the normal lag, like your ship not responding for several seconds? Or was it the heavy FPS lag I experience in every larger battle?
I don¦t know if it¦s my system or EvE itself but whenever I participate in large battles my FPS go down to like 12-15, sometimes even less. It¦s pretty much the same in Asteroid belts where many people are mining. FPS rates just become ridiculous for me in those situations.
My system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ GF 4 Ti4200 64MB 512MB DDR RAM Soundblaser Live! Value A-DSL connection Win 2000 Pro
EvE runs pretty smooth in all situations except big mining-ops and fights.

I had hoped that the new router firmware they put on the gateway router would fix some of the problems, but from what i'm reading here large scale battles still seems problematic. Network congestion will result in lag, no dubt and it would be nice to document the ping response to the eve node when problems occur,(to see if internet infrastructure is causing problemgs) my guess would lie in poor database performance (anyone say mssql), not network lag.
Maybe even som port response times from the eve server and compare it agains the icmp ping response times, just to see how well the application server are holding up.
If you are competent to do these checks, please do and post your findings along with a trace of your path, then we could compeare the results and make some conclusions. - It would not be wise to do a "how-to" here, could quickly evolve to a DOS attack, hehe.
My readings at the moment; (from norway, oslo)
-i did a trace, and after 7 (all under 3ms) jumps all icmp messages just times out, maybe some net provider have disabled some icmp stuff, can u guys trace into the host destination network?
-port response check; got an average of 48ms with an minimum of 40ms and max of 80ms with 25 checks over 10 mins, which is pretty awsome.
anyhow would be interesting if someone measures some values under heavy "lag". (i'll never see any big fantastic battles)

Edited by: Sarina on 27/09/2003 11:13:09 Edited by: Sarina on 27/09/2003 11:12:46 The lag I see is the FPC one, both in major corp mining as well as battles - the few ive been in. Grapic card should be able to handle the situation, but again the complex textures might still have to load even though most or everyone are quite distant. In short it cannot be ruled out, but I really dont think so. My guessits the client that waits for information to update positions which is slow and laggy - but that only said as a guess really.
