i'd actually like to take a walk in my own ship at some point. Apparently in 2008 CCP is releaseing the station side of EvE. Eve has always seemed to lack emersion. when i play now I really dont feel like i am part of anything. shure the universe is massive but theres no personality inside the cold grey hull of my hyperion. Hell i really just want to see the brige once. ... |

A.) This would be a looooooooong way off, sometime after walking-in-stations is implemented (if CCP hasn't put that idea on permanent hiatus, which seems likely) B.) You would need to retcon the entire basis of our characters' being.
Quote:In order to control a spaceship, a capsuleer climbs into the liquid chamber of a hydrostatic capsule, which is then filled with ectoplasmic liquids and the capsuleer floats inside this egg-like liquid chamber. This serves two purposes:
the feeling of weightlessness and lack of physical contact relaxes the body and allows for a more effective neural link. the liquid functions as a cushion both in artificial gravity and zero gravity conditions, prevents external stimuli (such as impacts) from disturbing the capsuleer.
While inside the hydrostatic capsule, the capsuleer is connected to his capsule's digital systems through the neural implants located on the back of his/her head and spine. A helmet covers capsuleer's head, camera drones supply visual feedback to the helmet's visor. Breathing tubes provide fresh oxygen and ectoplasmic liquid keeps the body clean. |

Yea, CCP has a lot to see to before this, even though it would be awesome. And about the lore: Lore is fun and all, but this would just be awesome. I don't think people will mind the lore taking a hit ;) |

No. While inside ships you are in a Pod. A biological sustainable container of fluid. This means that every ship is not designed for people to walk in them. |

And yet pods need windows... & lights, and 1km long ship hulls etc
And those pilots you can see on fighter models... where do they sleep and liv? in a 1 seat cockpit?
ahuh. I just went there. |

You only have to be in your pod if you want to pilot the ship. Once the ship is docked in a station I doubt there is anything preventing you from hopping out of your capsule and take a stroll in your ship.
But we are light years from this, not even stations are done yet. So far CQ is really only an eye candy offering sub-par functionality. I don't suffer from insanity.. I enjoy it ! |

The Pod provides you with biological implants. You never need to sleep or eat inside them. |

The ships with windows/ etc. are old designs, from the time when crews were still used -- for that matter, sometimes still are.
Note how T3 cruisers don't have any apparent windows/whatever, being designed from the ground up for Capsuleers. |

Ships have crews, they just don't have the same amount of crew as a ship that is controlled at a command station. Most things are automated, but there are things that have been confirmed are done by the crew through various chronicles and scientific articles.

The only ship that doesn't contain at least one crew member is the shuttle. All other ships require crew, to the Titan which requires hundred of thousands. This is in the lore. This is part of the game since EVE was a 2D MMO. You can walk around the ships, they have corridors and reactor cores and ammo stores &c. (OH GOD THE RHYMING). Obviously, as capsuleers, it would be impossible for us to walk around our ships while in space, but while docked I don't see an issue with it. That being said, scale needs to be accurate. |

Yeah, scale is definitely important!
But instead of creating the whole hull, one could surely suffice with important rooms such as bridge, engine room and other points of interest. Though make sure that these would be placed in their appropriate locations respective to each other for added immersion when navigating around inside the craft.

I think the only Ship that would be able for a capsulers to walk in are the capital classes Titan, Super carriers and Rorqual, AND NOT THE PILLOT but a visitor that would dock in the ship with the capsule or with a frigate if the ship have enough space... Inside of it the player could use the ship's services like cloning and whatever... |

ships could have crews as well to keep it up and running much like command centers. its just that the pod pilot is the commander of the ship, also a immortal being, who is you.
Though, could a capsular be outside a pod and pilot ship at same time, lore wise I would say not. Though, could other people be inside the same ship, who says no, the ships are massive beyond compare even with frigates they are comparable to size of real life support ships (frigates) just look at a ship diagram and all of the space inside a ship.
This would not only add a social feature (everyone dock in my ship for a party) but a tactical feature as well. It would make a carrier or any ship with a maintenance bay way better in being able to house a buddy or a small fleet. Why not? Also would make transporting pod pilots a profession on itself (likely to be used for large gangs going to a staging system).
more lore on capsules, and why it should be possible to have multiple pod dudes in one ship.
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Capsule
But mabey for the size of a ship hard limits should exist on how many pods can be in it (you have to be able to fit the pod and not just the pilot). 5 cruisers 10 battleships/cruisers 100 capitals 1000 supercaps |

Yes I agree I am in a pod but why dos my camera drone always look over , at or under my ship can it not for once look out through the hull in the direction of travel, this would be a nice atmospheric touch for those long boring hauler missions.

I see the pod pilots in Eve along the same lines as Karen Sjet from Homeworld, who is the pilot/controller of the mothership. Despite Karen piloting the ship, it still has an extensive crew and population on board.
Or as hybrids from Cylon Baseships in BSG, which also have crews in addition to the pilot.
To this end, I see all ships (with the exception of shuttles and pods) having crews of varying sizes. From frigates to supers.
And you should be able to walk around in those ships... and interact with these npc crews in the various compartments of your ship. |
