I've been so proud of myself...........have a POS in low sec with 3 research labs. My 2 characters have maximum slots being used 24/7. I've acquired a huge collection of researched BPO's and made thousands of copies for personal and corp use.
I'm also an idiot!! I just spent weeks researching POS array blueprints. Ammunition assembly arrays, component , drone, and ship assembly arrays, ect........................I never looked closely that these BPO's all have zero required materials. All materials are EXTRA materials. My ME research has all been pointless!!!!
I must have missed something during some past expansion about the purpose of extra materials. Most BPO's I have seen with extra minerals always have required minerals listed first. What would be the purpose of a BPO with ONLY extra materials?? ME research would benefit nothing. Will anything in this scenario be addressed in an upcoming update?? Fly safe!! -chuk |

Not entirely pointless. If I've read the dev blogs correctly (no guarantee), extra materials are going away and being rolled into required materials. So, your research will have a point. Of course, all research beyond 10 MEwill remain pointless. |

Major changes are coming soon(tm).
After the changes, all current ME 10 BP's will be "max researched". Extra materials are going away, and any "extra materials" on your current BPO's will becomes subject to the ME level of the BP.
Also, don't feel bad for over-researching your blueprints. At one point (and this is still probably true), the most ME-researched BPO in game is the Nanite Repair Paste BPO.... which has perfect ME at level 0.

I am currently in the process of researching ALL my BPO to ML 10 + PL 10, including structures (I have BPO for all of those too).
Previously none of my structure BPO had any ML research as they were all extra materials, but that changes in Crius July 22 when extra materials are converted to non-extra materials.
I'm not going to make 10+10 on several BPO (notably my carriers, dreads, freighters, and some of the slow-to-research structures like ihub).
I even researched all small rigs and small ammo to 10 + 10. |

Also all those BPO's that became 'perfect' at less than 10 will now still benefit from going to 10 if you build in bulk, since it sums materials across all jobs queued at once, so .1 saving per job = a real unit saved across 10 jobs. |

This is good news if it is true. I hate wasting time in EVE. I've always believed that time = isk. I've read so many of the development blogs that I have confused myself. I am looking forward to all the industry changes coming. I will adapt no matter what they are....................-chuk |

Regarding Nanite Repair Paste... is this still true? I mean, ME didn't affect Extra Materials required, but post-Crius, the mats to make it aren't classified as Extra Materials. Post-Crius, does ME actually affect NRP production? |

ME and PE affect everything now.
CCP hates special exceptions (they lead to ugly code, and bugs). |

ME now affects multiple runs rather that just 1. For Paste in the past as the maximum number of any unit was too low to be affected by 10% waste ME was useless however now with multiple runs it will .
Edit, I guess this also means that with 10 ME paste will now be 10% cheaper. |

Has anyone spot verified this post-Crius by manufacturing from a well-researched Nanite Repair Paste BPO? If this is so, that's something I missed.
I would have researched up my Nanite Repair Paste print's material level pre-patch, but didn't because the old common sense said "no." Damn you, knee-jerk reactions.

Well, then it's definitely something I missed. As I sorted through my BPO collection looking for ME's/PE's that could be improved ahead of Crius, I kept mentally skipping the one for Nanite Paste.
I even thought, "you know CCP should just make all those prints with low material counts an automatic ME 10, just so folks don't waste the research time." I got fooled - by myself, no less. |

I had one in the oven at the time, I thought about it about 18 hours before the patch and bought a second and research it up just in time. (the other was 20 000 PE and 0 ME, o well) |

That's good to know about the .1 saving. I was wondering if it would add up on multiple runs or not. Thanks for the info |

yes and no -- build requirements still have an absolute minimum of one (1) per run... so you can't get 10 runs of Perpetual Motion Device only needing 9 Villard Wheels, for example.
However, you will still (in theory anyway) save units over multiple runs so long as you don't fall below that minimum. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |
