from ancient times until now a day, ships still get borded and captured.
eve, took a different path, i would propebly hear the excuse of you can't because of shield or armor, or some kind of super computer that wont open the hatch.
anyhow, what iam about to propse is nothing for anytime soon. we all ready have hackign skills, encryption skills,,, ect what ever else is there. i dotn have much of a clue about em, apart from that they can open lvls in plexss without the key.
so this skills if are more advanced ones (in the future) should be availible to use for taking over a hauller for example.
senario: 1
3 frigs 4 hacs are waitign near a gate for someone to catch up next thing a hauller jumps in we he suddenly types: sheeeeeeeeet on local. well we get him scrambled like eggs webbed like flys and shoot him, he blows up, its all over everything got destroyed, nice kill for the killboard.
senario 2:
same story but we dont shoot. instead oen of us happen to have equiped a module called: medium *#$&%#* with his skill of gallente ship hacking at lvl 2, it takes him 9 minute to take voer control of the iteron 4.(noob) anyhow, the enemys pod ejects fromt he ship as a resault, but he instantly warped out because he logged off earleir.
so one of us checks whats int he ship cargo without havign to board it. and we found otu we jsut wasted 10 mintues of our time for t1 crap. we blow it up get the kill posted, and move on.
------------------------------------------
it will revolutionise pvp in some sort, i ve been thinking on it for a while, and i hope some of you share this ideas.

Edited by: benze on 14/06/2006 14:21:40 Perhaps you will fit cargo and fit scan before hack the ship? No, a real utility of this module in 0.0? It s interresting, i want to do the same with a rattlesnake OMG. And with the 30seconds, the pod can be return in his ships.

It's the best suggestion for taking over ships I have seen so far...
...taking over a ship should be MUCH harder than just blowing it up though - as the victim gets no insurance, and the winner gains the full value of the ship, modules, and cargo (as normally a chunk of that stuff would have gone boom).

the ship you take over the pilot should be able to set the destruct and do like Kirk in Startrek 3 and kill the boarding party with the ship exploding.

sound idea and it would also lead to a nice drop in prices on the t2 ship market since not as many would be blown up

lets not involve boarding partys here. i dont want those misssion *****s with millions of marines to make profeit out of me ; p
EVE has kept the msot complex thigns ingame simple, their excuse is always=== we re way too forward into the future.
and that worked fine to now.

Well since the ship you are taking over is controlled by a pilot jacked into his pod, what you could do is have the hacking skill paralyze the pilot temporarily and take the control codes from him. Next it would issue the "Eject Pod" command and *poof* the other guy is now in a pod in space. Ownership would now transfer to you and insurance would be cancelled on the ship. Of course if the ship's owner were smart and realized what was going on, he could trigger the "Self destruct" on the ship rendering you without a ship after 120 seconds.
Once you have control of it, you would need to either use a tractor beam to haul it with you or if you had the skill advanced enough and there was a friendly POS in the vicinity you could order the ship to warp to the POS and await you there.
Personally though, I'm the sort of nasty guy that would definitely trigger the autodestruct in the hopes that you WOULD take it to a POS because I would hope that "splash damage" for that would be allowed for. Imagine if you had a raven go *BOOM* right next to a Control Tower?
Thats just my thoughts on it. I need to refine them but thats just what I thought after a quick glance at the post.
Have a great one! |

The pilot would have to be given some sort of warning and a way to counter the hacking without losing their ship or the attacker would win both ways. If you lose the ship, they gain it, if you SD the ship, they pick up the loot so it's a win win situation for them.
Personally, I don't like the idea. It means that someone loses their ship and the insurance that goes with it so it would mean that even less people would venture into 0.0 or even lowsec.

I love this idea. It would be an awesome addition to the game once they get tactical damage in (read something about that in a blog I think) Take out his shield generator and blow the hatch open or something like that. |

it should be allowed only if it is easy to counter and the chance of taking over someone elses ship goes down with cost of ship so a navy raven would be pretty hard to steal and a titan almost impossible

I think this is a crazy bad idea and hope never to see it in the game

I like the idea, been wondering why there was no boarding mechanism already in place. It would have to be a difficult, two part protocol; hack the pilot out of their own system so they can't auto-destruct, then send those marines in a deployable or drone, which need to defeat any shipboard security "modules" or marines on the target ship. It's a whole new set of tech and skills.
But, why not have it work on NPCs too? I'd love to capture a Dark Blood Cardinal BS/Empire Faction fitted Dominix for my own use.
But the mandate would be it must be very hard to do.

Would insurance cover theft, or just destruction? It would blow if insurance didn't cover this, since killing the pirate would do nothing but turn his ship back into isk in his wallet, while losing the fight would cost you 100% of your ship's value, while giving it to him for use or sale.
And if insurance DOES cover the ship, you could just steal a ship, insure it, have a buddy steal it, insure it, and pass it around like that until you're both fabulously wealthy.
