Edited by: shadow128 on 15/06/2006 20:01:18 Thats right i've got a story for you all. Last night I decided I would try and get togather a minning op and being in the noob corp it was rather difficult. After 20-30 minutes we only had 4 guys join and a 5th came later. We had 2 miners in Bursts, and three running security Me in a Stabber, another in a Rupture and we had a slasher. I know not a very impressive op but its all we could get, we didn't even have a hauler to haul. So we all met at a quiet 0.3 system and began to mine Omber (yes we're still new). It had been going pretty well, killing the occasional NPC rat and making ahuling trips in our cruisers.
Then we notice someone come in local. I check his info he was a -6.8 sec status, so i warn everyone and tell them to stay alert. I take some ore and make a run to the station. As im warping back I see in gang chat "hes here run". I warp in just in time to see him hit out rupture with heavy missles. I quickly gang warp everyone to a SS. All of us get out alive. After regrouping we meet at station and decide to hunt the Pirate. Our three combat ships Me the rupture and slasher head out. The Rupture an Slasher warp back the the belt and check the can, he popped our minning can. Then in gang i hear em say hes back so I warp in. And wouldn't you know it i warp to within 5000m of him. I quickly scram and web him and begin blasting away. The others quickly fly over and we blast into space dust. Unfortunately we didnt get the pod. Soon after i tried to convo him but he logged.
Any way what was a quiet mining op with abunch of noob corp mates turned into one exciting night. We made about 3mil from his loot can so the loss of our minning can wasn't bad. The funniest part is the slasher got the killing blow.
And to the pirate if he reads this, good fight.
EDIT: BTW the pirate was in a rupture.

Good story, should give hope to other noob miners and encourage cooperation.

Yeah, that one was mad fun. I was sort of shaky about jumping in on this coop as all I had was a slasher at the time - I was hanging out in it while I skilled up for a particular ship and doing one-off missions. Anyhow, we jump to this belt and start our little rinky-dink mining op... I'm thinking this is going to take forever and we're all going to get like 10K out of it, but I was having fun blasting the NPC rats that turned up every now and then - the slasher is a FAST little ship for what it is, and well-armed. But still it was looking like kind of a futile operation.
So yeah, this rat comes in, hunts us down, and then we finally end up engaged with him. I jumped back late and our cruisers had him beat down pretty hard, and I don't think he had anything locked on me ever. Didn't stop me from orbitting him at 1000M and opening up with the missile and 2 autocannons. When he blew up, our mining op turned into a looting op worth a goodly chunk of change, too, and he started it. I don't think he was expecting us to be armed, nor that shadow would put the warp disruptor on him. His thinking was probably something like "oh, look, n00bs. Easy money." Not.
Oh, the best part of this whole tale of the bully being pushed into the mud puddle was the Concord email I received later - final blow was dealt by a slasher with a 125mm gun. His buddies are going to hassle him for that eternally, and I just love it. Thank you come again!

Good fight, but with a 3v1, a civilian gatling gun could make it as the final kill, its all luck

Thanks, and you're right. However, it is possible to MAKE your own luck, and this rat certainly did that. The word hubris comes to mind... Take off every 'Zig' !! |

Maybe its just me, but i think the pirate was the hero in this story. Attacking a mining op alone with 3 security ships guarding it is one of those crazy things I would do myself. I like him.

A few things: first of all, congrats on the kill, finally some miners that don't just whine in local about unfair game mechanics and rather defend themselves . Second, what ship was he flying? If it was a cruiser or higher, gj, from the loot though it sounds like maybe he was in an inty or AF.
Depending on his age, 3v1 odds aren't impossible - I've 2v1 before, but it was close and only won due to skills and tactics. 3 newbs killing a veteran player isn't bad if that's the case .

Somewhere up there they mentioned the pirate was in a Rupture.
To my mind that can be good or bad. I think the Rupture is one of the harder ships to make really effective with low skills but with high skills it rocks (and by skills I mean SP).

Much more fun that way. Plus, I think we're all too noobish to know better.

As shadow mentioned, he was in a rupture. It ruptured.

/signed Too many "hardcore " don't -get- that if more of them bothered to be ready for such things it would make the game interesting for everyone. Congrats on being the -good- kind of industrialist.

Actually they were pretty lousy industrialists when you think about it. A mining op with five people, two of which mined in frigates (albeit good mining frigates), hauling in cruisers...
Not giving them crap mind you. Was a pickup op afterall in newb corp and everyone sounds like they had a blast anyway so more power to them. What it does go to show is it pays to have guards rather than be greedy and expect everyone in miners/haulers and then ***** when they get ganked.

Haha, your collegue was the one to try and take what wasn't his, and I do believe we handed him his hat in the process. So you get over it. In the alternative, would you like some cheese with that whine?

See I wish all miners would do this. But no, some jackass has to come out with a guide on "how to dock when you see pirate" every friggin week. Result? Boredom. You took out that pirates ship but if he was a real pirate then you can be guarenteed that he had as good a time as you. Theres nothing more fun then jumping into a gatecamp and fighting till you die.

I know I had a good time just that encounter made the whole trip worth it. I wish i could have seen his face when i pulled out the warp scram on, he was probably like "WTF miners with warp scrams!". Also i think the only reason he attacked aggainst our higher numbers was he thought we were unarmed. The first time he warped in we all ran like scared rabbits. Then we regrouped and he found us again probably thinking were trying to recover our ore.

Good Job.
I swear, when I first started, I was being attacked left and right. And now that I finally have the means to defend myself, nobody seems to. ^_^
PS: This is empire wise, 0.0....whole different story.

Oh so true... even better taking a suicide run into GoonFleet space into the mining HQ and taking bets on how many you can pop before you die and also taking bets on who will last the longest.... oh now that's just a blast.

He was flying a cruiser, and he attacked 2 cruisers and a frigate (all combat fitted).
He lost. I'm sure you're all real proud of yourselves, but he sounds like a cooler guy than you
As for "Soon after i tried to convo him", why exactly did you do that? You didn't really need to gloat and flash around your e-peen did you? You did have agood reason, right? Otherwise, I think that sentence just lost you any respect I had.

Yes he's very cool going after easy ganks and preying on fearless noob miners of 0.3 space. If his pvp abilities came across anything more challenging im sure you could get a titan and help him hunt ibis's to show your combined pvp might.
And why convo him? well believe it or not this game has a mature playerbase im sure you forget yourself sometimes and think this is still tribal wars. Sometimes people like to talk to the people they engaged with to gain a better understanding of the aggressor.
Once more i would like to say your cooler than everyone in eve because you spam the forums and pretend to play the game and your pvp ability probably surpasses anyone in game teach me the wisdom to shoot ibis's in 0.2 space.

Bitter much?
Dear god if a noob attacked some pirates at these odds the boards would be falling all overthemselves to mock the poosr sucker. This guy came in system, most likely checked the local chanel, saw noobs in the noob corp no less, and figured hey easy kills. Then he got ganked, by noobs. That's beutiful irony, and irony is the highest form of humor.
Bravo guys. and it can be funny when Pirates die just like it can be funny for everyone else.
