So I decided to put out more than one MTU in a pocket, and because how they collect wrecks (closest first) all they did was tractor wrecks back and forth between each other. Reversing their logic and making them gather far away wrecks first would make them 100% more useful. |

no it doesn't, just us one and shoot the empty ones, if you want better optimisation, use a noctis. "CAKE CANNOT HOLD UP TO BEING A CHARACTER DAMNIT."

MTU's are very easy to probe down.
They cost just under 5 mil. Concord will not shoot people for blowing them up. Gankers and griefers are more likely to blow them and you up if you take extra risk by using more than one per pocket. Don't do drugs. (( Unless it's an interesting one ))
Use a Noctis and MTU's!
Drop MTU after each pocket not during. (( Less chance of people bugging you )) Bookmark. Run multiple missions as needed till you have 3-5 of them in space. Turn in last mission and bring in the Nocits and then get to cleaning. As long as you clean them in the order you dropped them all wrecks will be right on top of the MTU's anyway. You only need 1-2 beams on the Noctis. Rest of the highs are salvagers. Everything else is tank and cargo. Prop mods and sensor boosters will not be needed when using that ship with MTU's.

given I fly a marauder furthest would be cool as then I can just tractor beam the nearby wrecks with my own bonused tractor beams. That said I think the nearest thing is there just to create the ping pong situation to make you think about bringing something like a noctis instead of just using mobile tractor units. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

Logic would dictate that if this is the case, they would have made it so you couldn't place them within 125km of each other.
I understand that there are a host of things I can do to remedy this, but alas that is not why I started this thread. I started this thread in an attempt to convey how to improve what is already there. |

Natural solutions are superior to artificial restrictions. Therefore wreck ping pong is a better solution than restricting MTU's to not be 125km of each other.
You end up with cleaner code that way, too. |

MTUs are just fine. They aren't supposed to compete with actively doing it yourself. They are a convenience item.

Working as intended. This is so you don't drop 5 or 6 MTU's. The penalty for it working AFK is it's slow. |

You end up with cleaner code that way, too. as developer i can't say i would prefer this solution over restriction....
solution checks only when you deploy module ping-pong does 2 whole hours wreck exists in open space.... and all this time your system has some work to do.....

Warp into site, place MTU, shoot everything up, pick up MTU and loot... move on then return with a Noctis unless you're flying a Marauder |

"cleaner code" is not always better way in any case Because everybody is trying to slap down multiple MTU's in the same room right (sarcasm)?
How much work can it possibly be when nobody does it? Heck even if everybody doing missions did this it still would be a drop in the bucket of total calculations conducted by all the hardware supporting EVE
Having the server check for an MTU within 125km every time you slap one down would result in MORE work than the current solution. |

People would, without tring for it, "find" drop point where the exact same thing happen with a wreck being the furthest one for both tractor unit. |

Uh, if the code is already there for it to do a check at 5000, how would doing a check at 125 000 make the code messy?
Frostys Virpio wrote:People would, without tring for it, "find" drop point where the exact same thing happen with a wreck being the furthest one for both tractor unit.
Yes, but at least the wrecks wouldn't start to ping-pong until they were all close to the MTUs.
And on another note, yes I use a Noctis. I just thought it was counter productive to be able to drop MTUs within 5km of each other just have have them ping-pong wrecks. |
