Since the last topic got locked due to a misunderstanding I'm sure:
There is stuff to do in high sec that involves emergent gameplay, player run causes claiming dominion via wardecs and suicide ganking.
This thread is here to take questions and answers about those mechanics and gameplay. This is not a recruiting thread, but instead a placeholder to inform new players of the game play options available in highsec beyond those found in the tutorial.
I invite new players with questions about such gameplay to post questions, and I'm sure experts in the field will be happy to answer.
Please avoid any corp specific activities when responding to questions to avoid any misunderstandings. |

I lost a Vexor Navy Issue in high sec to a Marmite squad today. I had just gotten the ship to play with, made at most 10mil worth of bounties and rewards with it before Marmite dusted my 105mil canoe.
Overheat everything, throw drones at the nearest flashy, die in a ball of fire. Welcome to Eve Online.
GF to Marmite, didn't have time to put it in local. Emergent Gameplay is fun, even when it's raining faction ammo on your hull. It's what makes Eve different. For me, literally, high sec is more dangerous than null sec. I knew instantly when I came thru the gate that my hours-old faction boat was so much space wreckage. Not the first time that's happened, not the last. High sec mechanics working exactly as they should. Sometimes you lose internet space ships.

There's that moment. Almost frozen in time. Half your overview is flashing red, the sight of a couple Interceptors means escape in an AB cruiser is just a pipe dream. If you crash the gate only half the enemy fleet will fire so they rest can chase you thru the gate...they've not dumb, this is what they do every day.
You zoom in on your ship. A wraith while still under the protection of the gate cloak. Such a fitting image of your ship, a ghost. While it may be sitting there with full shields and armor, it is in fact already dead. That conclusion is forgone. Caught alone in high sec, out farting around in a faction canoe just killing time. Acting casual in someone else's backyard.
Oh well, might as well go down fighting. Start figuring out what order to spam the hotkeys while madly clicking the overheat buttons. Target? Whatever gets locked first. It's a pointless act of defiance, but an act nonetheless.
The shame is never in the loss, but only in the lack of will to go kicking and screaming and overheating into that long, dark night. |

A well informed newbie is a better newbie, the more they know the better their experience of Eve will be.
Ignorance of mechanics, both on the part of newbies and corporations, is one of things that gets people killed. Any initiative to nerf ignorance is a good thing.

So that rookies cannot find out how to react to exciting hi-sec gameplay opportunities?
If it wasn't for forum & blog posts like this, I would have unsubbed again when I found myself rattling around in missions, falling asleep at the keyboard. But thanks to such wonderful activities that can be had in hi-sec, CCP get my money and the money of my alt accounts for another few months.

The problem with threads like this in here is that the ego's and drama from the other forums spills over much too easily.
You guys really want to help the new players in here? Then just answer the questions as they come with simple and concise answers. Avoid the acronyms and provide links to Evelopedia or other sites that provide more information. This way new players can get the answers they need as well as getting in the habit of searching out solutions to their problems instead of getting frustrated when the game doesn't hand them what they need.
The next time any of you have some free time in game, head over to one of the rookie systems and chat up people in local. I don't just mean the career agent systems either, but the starter systems where people first appear when they log into the game and meet Aura for the first time. Sure there are lots of alts in these systems, but once in a while you find that 'real' newbie you can help and that makes the time and effort worth it. You'd be surprised at how many of them I've found over the years that don't even realize this forum exists. |

The ISD team are usually very quick off the mark to kill off dramatic and egotistic posting in NCQA as well as disinformation, because it's a forum for newbies it's also one of the most heavily regulated subforums.

We do answer the questions, some aren't possible to answer concisely but we do our best. If we use acronyms we generally include the meaning of the acronym in brackets, we also link regularly to external resources such as the Eve Uni Wiki, which incidentally is far better maintained than the official one. If Goonswarms Wiki was open to the public we'd link to that as well, rumour has it that it's one of the best external resources available.

A lot of us often roll new characters to do precisely this, we help people get through the initial tutorial and the NPE, we direct them towards player driven organisations and resources that can help them find their way in Eve.
Threads like this are precisely what NCQA needs, as I said earlier in the thread a well informed newbie is a better newbie, the more they know, the more likely they are to find their own path within Eve and become long term players.

I agree, kinda. This thread has little direction even if it does have good intentions behind it.
"i lost a faction boat in hisec"
"yeah i also lost a faction boat once, there was much red"
"Indeed, red is bad. Allow me to recite a poetic version of the exact same thing that's already been said"
"yeah good input dude, totally emergant gameplay n ****"
I have some equally concise yet pointless advice :
You were flying a navy version cruiser solo in highsec whilst at war. Lets face it you were going to die sooner or later anyway. The biggest lesson in this thread is to leave out the navy edition and save yourself the losses while at war.
