Every (belt-pirate) build I've heard of completely passes over passive targeters, so I'm starting to wonder what is wrong with them? I understand that with a MWD, one should be able to get into range fast enough that the time difference in the targets reaction wouldn't matter, but why are they always passed over? |

because ppl generally start warping away as soon as you enter the same grid, regardless of you beeping at them or not..
might be useful in certain cases.

From what I have seen they are lovely on manticore's, when they see a ship 100+ km away they wont see it as a threat untill my cruise misiles start hitting them .

this is completely WRONG.
They do see the threat the moment you hit fire, not the moment your weapons hit them.
To clarify, your targetting remains passive until you hit your fire button, so the person your shooting will see a big red square around you as soon as your missiles leave teh missile bay.

Don't the passive targeter stops if you activate any other module?

Bring in expensive tech II passive targeters which don't shut off when you fire upon your target. Those would be exciting.

Hellz ya! But anyway, passive targetters are great for empire when you want to scan someones ship or cargo hold without them knowning about it, good for empire wars when you want to send in an alt with a passive targetter and ship scanner to get an enimie's setup.

Just a quick side note, since I thought I'd give passive sweeping a try, how does one activate the passive target lock?
Activating the module then locking, OR Just locking with the module equiped and online with enough capacitor energy? |

You can use passive targeters on sniper BS. If you got a BM 100km above the belt you may even not show up on overview because all those nice roids are filling it up. That way your first strike will come out of nowhere. -- $ perl -n -e 'print "Stop blameing pirates! Oveur is the root of all evil!\n" if m/podkill|lost my ship|gank|gate camp|Verone/;'

i love passive targeters for trit compression 125m3 of trit -> 5m3 passive targeter with high refining skills and a highly researched BPO you can carry lots of trit in a indy with little loss
so far thats the only use ive found for them ---------

True, but if you only fire one salvo and your launchers deactivate while your cruise missiles are still on their way to the target, the red brackets disappear. If your target hasn't been paying attention, you can hit them without them knowing who's firing.... big if offcourse
Originally by: RavenL0rd Don't the passive targeter stops if you activate any other module?
No they don't. You can only lock 1 target but that target will not see that you have locked him. You can use any kind of module and he won't lock you back. Offcourse, your target will see the red brackets as long as your offensive modules are active but when you stop using them, they go away and no yellow brackets are seen either.
The biggest advantage for me when using a passive targeter is the fact that your target doesn't lock back automatically. The locking sound is what tips off players that something is going on. They don't always pay attention to these red brackets.
