In my short career (about 3 months) I have been givin "advice" which often turned out to be myths only to be busted (usually by me being podded) :-) Now that I have mastered the art of cloning, I thought I would share some of these and also ask about a couple of peices of advice that seem.....like guarantied clonings. Try not to laugh too hard, I realize now how dumb and nieve I was / am.
My first myth was really a stupid assumption on my part. I thought one could only pvp once their standing reached .4 ..... at 2 days old I learned the truth. Thank you Deja for busting that myth (better to have lost a noob ship and alpha clone then something else)
I was told that shuttles were a safe way to travel b/c it was bad etiquette to pod a shuttle (yes I whined about losing the shuttle....but now I know better)
One should train ships before weapons......Busted. Better ship w/ small turrets = CLONE VAT
Then theres a couple that have not been tested. For example, if a miner is in low sec with an deep core drilling, he/she is protected from pirates b/c they cant get close enough to kill them. I just dont want to test that....I just have that memory of my venture into 0.0 when I got popped from over 100 km out. (of which busted another myth)
And then there the mixed advice regarding logging out in low sec space, that you are parked in a safe spot. I always thought (not willing to test yet) that even when one logs out there ship could still be attacked.
I hope I have not caused you great pain from laughing to hard. and to those 18 pirates who sent me to the cloning vats without smacktalking, I salute you.
Is there anyone else that busted a myth (or am I the only nieve player in eve)

Maybe not something I should admit to , but only recently as 8months or so ago I found out you could jump through a gate while warp scrambled , It stems back to an incident bout' 2 years ago my first ship loss and then podding , a Kestrel attacked my shuttle in I think Placid region and I got the usual " so and so is warp scrambling you " when the shuttle was destroyed I tried to jump a gate in my pod and it wouldn't let me and so got podded .
Since that day I thought it was cos' I was warp scrambled and lost countless ships because of thinking this , It was only when i made a remark recently about not being able to jump once that I was told I'd been wrong all along

When you log out in space your ship disappears after one minute and cannot be probed.
However, if you get aggroed (or aggro) another player a "pvp timer" starts and your ship will not disappear for 15minutes after you log out.
So you can go to a safe spot and log and they can easily use a covert ops ship to find your ship and blow you up.

I only have slight cramps now
We've all fallen for some strange "facts" in our EvE-lives. I'd take what a lot of people say with a pinch of salt though, theres more rumours than facts in this game.

To the OP, dunno if you are in a corp as it's DT but if not find a good one. The number of things my corp had to set me straight on, and still do.
The biggest myth of all is that you are safe anywhere in eve, coz you're not. Someone will always figure out a way to kill you. Except in stations, you're safe there.... probably.

Maybe if someone manages to find a way to blow up the station? =================================

Myth: If you fire upon someone who's an outlaw you can still use the jumpgate.
Results: One ruppie turned into space particles along with majority of equipment (and 10 sealed containers needed to finish Black Market Hub) thanks to aformentioned nice outlaw flying an enyo.
Myth busted and a lesson learned
