I tried this mission once before and couldn't do it, so I just got it again and thought I'd have another look. This is the Gist/Corpus version. I warped in in a shuttle, there were no ships < 100km from me, I think they were about 125km from me, yet everything started targeting me. I thought if you stayed 100km from the gist they didnt attack you? Is there a problem with this version of the mission or something?
Thanks -------

From what I understand (I get different stories), in the Gist/Corp version, everything agroes when you arrive. In the Serp/Gurista version, only the Serps agro until you release drones or bring in a gangmate.

In Serp/Guristas verison I get agroed by both parties.
Usually Serpentis immidiatley upon warp in and Guristas follow suit about 30 seconds later. I done this mission dozen of times and it always like that. Perhaps it is based on your standing? I dont know, but I always get agro from both groups.

Guristas in S/G WC only aggro me if I release drones or 1 respawns before I clear the stage. Another way they will aggro is if you have a gang mate fighting with you.

Gist/Corpus is worlds collide on hard mode compared to serp/guristas. I regularly solo the serp/guristas. the Gist/corpus = all 4 damage types, and with both groups aggro-ing upon warpin, you have no choice but to attack and try to extricate yourself from the scramblers before your tank is overwhelmed. Then warp out, back in, and try it again for as long as it takes to get through it. Alternatively, run for a gate, but that's still not easy.
Toaster Oven posted that he successfully tanked the entire first lvl using his navy issue apoc, but not all of us are Toaster Oven

theres a 3rd type for pirate missions...
I got gallente navy vs sansha... needless to say my ship didnt last very long. Wierd though a serpentis overseer + other assorted serpentis ships showed up on the sansha base stage even though I was working for them indirectly... (intaki syndicate).

Thanks for the info. It seems a bit much for both spawns to attack you on this mission and do all 4 damage types. Short of buying a Gist booster and better hardners, not sure it can be done, can do all of the others with just a T2 booster and 50% hardners though (haven't tried EA 5/5 yet).
Managed to clear out the intys and stuff but by the time thats done, you have 3 Gistum bs firing at you and the 4 Corpus ones creeping into range.
Ended up losing the raven...fortunately it was on test server :)...think I'll keep rejecting this mission -------

Edited by: Zaeryth on 25/06/2006 16:58:13 Critically important to this mission is to note that you are not required to destroy any targets in the first 2 gateway areas. I've found taking the Cartel Base route is easier than the Gurista Base one and you still get to the objective either route you take. The second gateway section is a bit tougher no matter which route you go, just ignore/outrun your aggroes or destroy a few just to get to the next gate. Once in the third area, you'll be happy to see the damaged Heron you have to get to. The ships here vary in difficulty but are not as hard as the previous gateway targets.

I managed todo this today, was my first time.
I had serps and some other ones cant remember now :/
But I did it by burning through the first 2 zones and not killing any of the enemies.
In the third room (one where the objective ship is) soon as I got there 3-4 ships targetted me, so I ran away from them and 'pulled' them away from the rest of the main group of ships. as they got closer I just fired my missles at them from about 10k away, they couldnt hit me at all, but I made mince meat out of them pretty quick. Once I killed them it marked my kill objective complete.
So I slowly creeped in to the broken ship, expecting the other 10 ships to agro me, but they didnt. I was about 20k away and they didnt do anything. So i picked up the people and warped out.
Took me a few tries (I almost died and warped out) to figure out what todo, but the running away and firing missles worked a treat for me :)

Nice post Esie, someone using a strategy other than "blast everything! I have to have that loot and bounty! even if i lose my ship" some missions are designed for thinkers lol. imagine trying to solo the Amarr fleet in HC V.
However im in the blast everything catagory and tend to have to refuse those tougher missions Till I have the DPS to kill fast enough that is.
