Two very common topics here are about fixing SOV and how empty null space is outside of the main hubs and a few systems around them...
What if every SoV structure had a set rate of decay that would reduce heir hit points and invulnerability timers, until they are maintained, which would replenish these to the current values.
The SOV maintenance ship would be a brand new class of ships, battle cruiser size, that have to fit maintenance modules on their high slots. Because of their specific nature, they could not be bridged by titans, and would be forced to travel through new Eden the old fashioned way to maintain the SOV structures and replenish the hit points for their alliance. There would be some kind of fuel to make the maintenance module work so that refueling those maintenance ships would have to be planned too. These ships not being combat oriented would require escort fleets, and would be particularly fragile during maintenance.
An alliance that would.not visit their SOV structure regularly to maintain those would be more likely to loose them to smaller groups, as the hit points and invulnerability timers would bring them in range of attacks by smaller fleets of subcaps... A system could be blockaded to prevent maintenance.. There would be more activities around gates... And all of the current mechanisms would remain as they are, beyond this steady degradation of SOV structures over time....

Interesting, a hellcamp for every single system. ^^ Delicious goon ((tech nerf, siphon, drone assist, supercap)) tears.

-1. Remember this is a game. Adding a requirement like this for the express purpose of making a continuous non fun time sink on a massive scale is ridiculous. |

The logistics guys in every alliance would commit suicide simultaneously.
That, or, when they jump in with whatever they use to fuel towers, they just bring a carrier containing one of these things too.
Or, since it's BC sized, they just keep one in a POS somewhere in every system. |

My suggestion here is simply a way of inducing entropy in the SOV game, rather than limit artificially sizes of alliance.
my goal is simply to create new constraints that makes large alliances control more difficult, especially when such control is established by a multitude of alts...
