Today while surfing the blue print channel posting for stuff i get a convo from this guy..
"Covert Hauler"
Saying he was my CEO training up a hauler. Of course he asks me if he could take stuff to "our station" as he had a few hours time. Yea,im thinking sure, then it hits me... My CEO wouldn't be caught dead in a hauler, and so the games begin.
After a few short msgs to him saying I had lots of stuff to take out (high dollar items and supplies) I hit him with,
Oh BTW whats the Security Code today?
um uh... clk...blocked
So, anyway, watch out for this guy, poseing as your CEO. And a bit of advice. Ive read these forums long enough to have seen the countless "i wired my ceo cash and it wasn't him" posts, so..
Instigate a corp wide, closely held security question/answer for everyone. Can be simple, whats my dogs favorite color, or whatever, but just something that these nimrods won't know.
Old news, yes, but for some it may save a bit of grief that haven't been around so long.
Oh and Covert, my agent says he knows where you live...

I think that HippoKing meant that this post really lacks any usefull content. First, any corp-wide secret would have to be shared with all of the corporation members, so unless this scammer is outside of your corp, he or she will already have the answer. Second, if the scammer is indeed outside of your corp, or has only been within the corporation for a few days... how can he possibly pose as your CEO?
I will conceed to the point that it may in fact be your CEO behind an alt character, but that's iffy.
Finally, the OP forgot to give us the scammer's name, so there is no way to blacklist anyone and no real warning except that there are CEO scammers abound. My understanding of this game is that if even one person can be scammed in a certain way, there are already scammers ready to perform that scam and actively seeking targets. |

To clarify my point: this scam is very common, and you would have to have a major brain malfunction to fall for it. There are many, MANY threads on it. Most of us have had it happen to us.
I'm sure the fact that you didn't fall for it DOES make you very proud indeed, but really, was there ever any chance of you doing so? As for the security question, that is more difficult to organise and can be leaked.
Just say "if you give your ISK to an alt, you don't deserve it back". If people want you to send ISK to an alt, they can either mail you beforehand with the name or get on teamspeak and prove it.
I don't have a problem with there being a thread on this, but as the name makes clear this is ANOTHER one. Why not post it in one of the old ones?

When have I ever said that? I have no form of blacklist at all. My corp is not recruiting, nor has it ever been since its creation, from people I knew priorly.

I know this guy "Covert Hauler". He was posing as my CEO playing an alt and asked me to borrow him xx Million ISK or something. I told him to log in with the CEO's main to proof it - which he didn't. So he got no money of course.
I realy hate such kind of people.

Yup he tried with one of my corpmates too. Ofc he didn't fall for it. But some ppl do fall for it, especially newer, inexperienced players. I don't see the problem with this thread, warnings are always welcome, there are a lot of players who can learn from it, not everyone has been playing Eve/other MMOs for months/years.

I disagree, better to ask whoever the alt claims to be to log on the main or verify it on TS.
Or you could just podkill the alt. Any friend should know better than asking with an unknown alt.

It's good to know who the scammers are, even if you won't fall for their stupid tricks it's still good to know who they are so you don't invite them to your corp someday, or you can ruin their game rep, pod them, etc. =============================================== Don't say to me over a forum what you wouldn't say to my face. |

If people need to be warned about this, they REALLY need to learn what game they are playing.
Griefing is to ruin a friendly game, which Eve is not. |

Everytime you get someone like this. Its always nice to waste thier time by talking to them a bit... Pretending to be looking for stuff... What ever holds them up for a while. But don't give them anything.
PS. This is also why members and CEO's should be in TS or Vent
