Best stories have a bitter ends.
British doctrine for a frontal assualt requires 3 times the numbers the defender has and air superiority.
Clausewitz said that an attack can only succeed with the element of surprise. The russians implemented that in their current tank doctrine and do not even attack without surprise.
That is why Napoleon, for instance, only fought two siege ops in his career - he refused to wage siege warfare, knowing the high costs in mobility and reinforcments.
A siege can only work if you can cut the defenders reinforcments away.
The battle of Verdun in the first world war was an extreme example of the flaws of siege warfare, when both sides have the opportunity and the recources to reinforce.

As a pirate, I did not care about who owned Huola. I cared about my mission if creating an entry system that new players could come into safely from high sec to engage in pvp. So, my only argument is against high sec gate campers and industry gankers.
Amarr told my corp they would harass us, station camp us, hunt us, and do everything they could to evict us.
It then became a matter of an entire FW empire telling my corp it's over. We could not lay down and just die. We had to do something.
Then, members of Amarr FW stated we had to pay them to be a neutral party, even taunting us in local. This could not stand.
We brought it. And we won. Amarr FW leaders lost the war. Not through battle, but by uniting everyone against them.
Before this, Amarr FW could have offered me 100m isk and gotten my full loyalty, even no isk and a simple talk could have kept me neutral. After this, nothing under 5 trillion isk could be seriously considered.
Next time you invade a system, do your homework. Look who lives there and don't purposely offend everyone even remotely associated with the area.
Other than that, thanks for the KMs. |

I can't read this thread and the effect on AVNG without smiling a little at the irony after the bashing we took when burn out shut us down.
The good news is that Eve is addictive and people get itchy trigger fingers after a few weeks in the real world.

The reality is, this is a difficult discussion to have without coming across as "didn't want that system anyways" or "if we really wanted to take Huola, we would have". People complain about blue donuts and lack of fighting if you make the 'smart' play in regards to numerical advantage or criticize if you take the other route.
On our side, there's really no homework to be done in regards to invading FW systems. The key players knew exactly what they were doing and those involved were responsible for planning Dal and Arzad. I think that given the state of inactivity within the Minmatar militia a the time of the campaign we could have taken Huola if we had used similar tactics of constant pressure over several weeks without throwing off any major sirens or giving anyone a reason to come back, then dropping the hammer when Huola reached a certain threshold going into a weekend that we could drop the hammer without enough time for the Minmatar to organize help from other groups
As much as many of us would have liked to have seen Huola fall, I think the majority of us on ALL sides can agree that another Arzad. We wanted someone to fight and some of the AVNG guys wanted to go all in, FHP in particular, guns blazing, for one final campaign. Huola is simply smoldering right now, but for two weeks, I don't think anyone can deny that it burned. Most importantly, neither side suffered from the extreme burnout that they have in previous campaigns.
As far as the chestbeating and 'terrible' smack at the beginning of the campaign, both sides have been pretty bad historically. Let's be real. Though, depending on the side you're on you see it as simple smack talk all the way to immature vitriol or pathetic metagaming. DCM posts and other propaganda aren't so much as Minmatar demotivators, but tools to build internal hype within our own militia. At any rate, as someone who enjoyed lighthearted smacktalk when I used to play lots of sports and party games when I was in school I think that aspect shouldn't be taken too seriously. I used to take EVE too seriously, and while the Amarr benefitted greatly from that, I can only look at EVE now as a game. I think everyone should remember that.
I think in retrospect, we could have had better logistical organization prior to the campaign and better communication between the major parties involved. Logistics, even at a short notice has always been something we've excelled at, but for this campaign it fell short. We didn't really start getting fully mobilized until maybe half a week before it kicked off and had fweddit on mumble and everyone else on Amarr TS. Joint comms has always been a killer for us or any organization really, but we've found ways to work around it in the past. This time, however, we couldn't and paid the price for it.
That's really the only thing I have an issue with. It's easy to look back and second guess strategic decisions, but as far as the guns blazing "USA #1" approach that was intentional. Both sides had been suffering from a significant amount of inactivity and you have to get the hype train going hard enough if you want to give people a reason to come back to the game. In that aspect, i'm extremely happy with how things went and how big Huola became is something I would consider a big success. Call it a vain attempt at reliving the glory days around Inferno, Amarrian hubris, I don't really care. Both sides had incredible showings and seeing so many old faces made me smile.
To answer Loryanna's question, unless someone else takes up the mantle, Burn Huola is indeed over. Whether anyone believes me or not, ILAW and Fweddit are going to be looking to our next campaign. It was a ton of fun and I think only a handful of the bittervets here truly understand just how much there is to be appreciated regarding the low amounts of burn out from this campaign.
I want to end this post simply by echoing Loryanna's sentiments when I say that I hope everyone manages to catch a bit more rays this summer than we all have in the past.
EDIT: Props to the Minmatar for undocking and bringing it as well as the Gals and Neutrals who showed up too. I can't even count what 'failed' attempt at Huola this is anymore, but this was by far the grandest and it gave everyone a couple awesome weeks of nonstop activity. Giving your members things to do so they don't leave EVE or go to other groups is one of the most important aspects of success in EVE. As corps and alliances, all of us are coming out on top and I hope that the Minmatar are able to continually build on this momentum so we can get some more fights in the future.
I also want to give a final shoutout to FHP. As much as he was notorious for raging, he was a good dude who would always follow through with the things he said he would and has given more to the Amarr militia than many of us will ever realize. The same goes to the rest of AVNG.

Besides all the smack talk on both sides which admittedly was a little bit of fun..... It certainly was a blast being able to be a part of such a massive attack. Coming into New Eden from Dust just doesn't remotely prepare you for how technical and draining it is to really fight a conflict in a game.
I certainly think Huola can fall.... just needs the slow knife.... |

About 6 AVNG pilots and some 10-20 Biohazard pilots.
Ppl refered to that as the "Burn Huola Event".
You post: We have pirate friends now and thus have gal and pirate support - if you dare to come back.
Does that sound strong in you own opinion?

Confirming. Scope only learned what a overview was during this campaign. And that Jita wasn't a ship. Now we find out we can have alts. I'm terrible at eve with just one toon. Why would I want another? I would be double bad. I am bad at eve. Stop trying to make me worse people.
