If it works by squeezing all energy out of the surrounding space to create anti-friction... how can you see while warping? Wouldn't all light photons also be forced out of the warp bubble? --- Join channel: "Eve University" or read here |

One of the articles states that what you see in-warp is a mere simulation by the ship AI.

"depleted vacuum" nominally contains no energy at all - however the warp bubble has to contain your ship or it would be useless.
My understanding of the warp drive is that you have space -> depleted vacuum -> space. The latter-most is where your ship resides while warping, while the depleted vacuum bubble allows this pocket of real space to travel much faster then light because your moving "space" as a whole, rather then trying to travel "through it".
The crucial thing about depleted vacuum though is that it works without requiring the total removal of all energy - rather what you're removing is the zero-point flux by carefully creating an environment in which the wavelengths of all the possible particles are excluded.
Of course once you have an anti-friction bubble, it's not too hard to keep it - any particle entering it immediately accelerates drastically until it blows out the other side or enters the interior of the bubble. Hence, when you're warping, the bubble is actively colliding with photons in space, many of which travel fast enough to enter the interior of the bubble and be observed by you. Larger, slower matter, is excluded since it just slips around the bubble and remains where it is (the bubble acting to accelerate it around itself and back into the place it was too start with - hence why warp bubbles don't destroy things).
