Is anyone using a laptop to play eve? If so could you make a recommendation on which laptop to buy, I would like to get something in the $800-$1000 range if possible. Its time to upgrade and I would love to be able to take my comp with me when I travel. Thanks for your help

i use a HP ZD8000 works like a charm....
most of the new breed lappys work well as long as they don't have intel shared gfx.
go for one with pci express dedicated gfx card and loads of ram.

I use a laptop but you might need to spend a bit more than 1000 to get the best performance

I use a 4 year old Dell laptop that was a midlevel computer at the time. If you buy new, the only things to consider are the amount of RAM (I'd say 1 GB is decent), and not to go with integrated graphics. Other than that, the processor speed and GRAM should be more than sufficient.

Edited by: Ethanial on 28/06/2006 20:39:38 I play EVE Online on my laptop with everything set to Max. Of course, I'm playing it on a Sager NP9750. Specs Below:
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Video Card - Nvidia Geforce 7800 Go GTX RAM - 1 GB Mushkin Memory Monitor - 17" 1680x1050
So I don't quite count really.

EVE seems to run fine in Boot Camp on my low-end MacBook, but I'm mostly just cycling through the tutorial right now.

Things to look for in a laptop, in no particular order; CPU brand (AMD for gaming/running servers and intel for ripping DVDs) CPU speed (Better overall performance, less computer lag) RAM (You want to have enough that your computer doesn't use the page file, so you get better performance) Video card memory size (So more (and high quality) textures and stuff can be loaded at once, possibly reducing in-game hitching as well) Video card memory and core clock speeds (Increases frames per second) Network adaptor (Faster ones can reduce internet lag (ping)) Hard drive RPM (Faster loading times, faster saving times, faster defragmenting) Hard drive space (Be sure you don't end up with less then 15% free space or the performance will suffer greatly and defragmenting will be almost impossible) Screen size (Laptops generally use LCD monitors which only work good at there native resolutions. So make sure it has a resolution you are happy with.) Battery life (So you don't lose power in the middle of a giant fleet battle) Keyboard size (Often overlooked, it shouldn't be. You will not regret getting a Keyboard that perfectly fits your fingers.) Size and weight (The whole point of a laptop is to be small and light, you don't want to be lugging around a brick do you?) Price (More exspensive isn't always better.)

I use a Compaq M2000 (Sempron 64 2800+ CPU 512Mb RAM with 128 shared to ATI Gfx card) runs great, and on a sub AU$1000 machine.

I'm using a IBm R50p. It's doing really well. Usually I hook it up to my TV, that's really sweet. I'm using Samsung 32" LE-32R72B that can handle 1360x768.

Using: Apple MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo 2,16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB 5.400rpm disk and ATI X1600 256mb grafix. I have a Windows XP SP2 partition to play Eve on that one and works like a charm.
Runs better than on my PC hehe...

One thing to look out for when playing Eve on a lap top I s how hot it runs. I play Eve on a Fujitsu-Siemens P4 machine and after more then 40 mins or so continuous play would get uncomfortable hot, and would have lots of lock-ups, sudden shut downs and tended to run slow. A fan assisted cooling tray went part of the way to solving these problems but not fully. Now I have a small 6 inch tabletop fan blowing directly at the side of the laptop, and bingo. Problem solved.
