I normally armor tank my (nos)domi, but I'm wondering about passive shield tanking. I've been toying around in QuickFit (and no, I don't have the skills to do it), but in the absolute silliest scenario (2x shield hardners, 3 T2 Large Shield Extenders, 7 T2 SPR in lows, 2 E500 Nosferatus, 4 T2 Large Rails) you have 160 passive shield regeneration per sec (max), and never go below 100% as long as your in nos range.
Obviously, there are toys that you want that won't fit in this setup, but it seems like there are some possibilities. The damage with the rails sucks, of course; but they aren't really the point. I'm just trying to figure out the best drone platform.
Any thoughts? Obviously, with all those SPRs, the "normal" cap regeneration is scary bad; you wouldn't even be able to warp! But anytime you had enemies around "bam!" your at 100% cap. Possibly one could use a cap booster or something similarly silly to warp.
Obviously a weirdo build for a domi, but has anyone tried passive shield tanking? The following is best case scenario, tanking. Obviously if you actually wanted to hit something with rails you'd need a target painter, or webber, or damage mods, or something. Use target specific hardners as you desire.

No SPR T2 in-game.
No point to SPR after 3rd/4th mod.
SPR crap coz low cap recharge rate. Your setup takes forever to gain |---| little cap.
Dont passive shield tank. Doesnt work for Domi. ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT!

Edited by: Amasera on 27/06/2006 21:41:52 The Dominix is very passive tankable, as long as you dump your hybrids and Nosa***** it. No cap = No Guns, the reason Caldari ships can passive tank is that missiles = no cap use, so it doesn't make a lick of difference.
Replace the guns with as many NOS/Neuts as you can fit and fill the rest of the slots out to support your drones, how ever that may be. Passive tanked suckadomi FTW.... sometimes. -------------------

Doesn't fit, won't tank, no SPR2 it sucks. Passive tanking isn't really viable on any BSs. -- Terror Legion - Recruiting |

The Year in MC video shows a Domi shield tanking with large hybrids and NOS in the highs and hardeners/extenders in the mids. It was pre-RMR, he was flying 10 drones. He also had something that looked like a cap booster in the only visible low slot, which doesn't fit there anymore, if that's what it was.

if uve got some 1 to tackle this setup pwns :
6 heavy nos
T2 XL booster, amp, em t2, therm t2, invuln t2
i think it was 6 pds2 and a co pro 2
Tanks like insanity and nos's more than any armour tank dom. Obviously has no ewar but is better in a small gang as it does more cap damage and is tuffer than an armour dom.

Edited by: Cadiz on 28/06/2006 03:01:19 From what I remember & understand, the theory and concept of the "passive shield tank" was originally developed by Pottsey, who did it with a Dominix.
Therefore, the Dominix is obviously quite capable for the role - it's just a matter of getting the right fitting.

tank wise its exactly the same as a armor tank domi. it has 2 more heavy nos in exchange for 5 mids of ecm. even if ecm gets nerfed to half strength it will still be better to use nos/ecm/armor tank domi!

Pottsey is the single biggest advocate of shield tanking ever
As for the setup, its a damn good tank, but you won't be able to sustain the guns and hardeners

Next Passive tanking was made for the Domi its pretty much the best passive tank out there. Lastly you gain little cap but use little cap so its not a problem.
There are two alterntive options you should look into. first fit 2 PDS modules and the rest shield relays. This takes the edge of cap so you can run none stop without needing nos.
For PvP forgot Nos and SPRÆs instead take all PDS modules now fit 4 cap destabilises with 2 Nos. Cap destabilises drain 2.5 times more cap then Nos. Deadly for your enemy. Dont forget the two cheap shield implants.
If you want to test setup and the test server is back. I am happy to meet up and help.
