I think that would be a valid option... However there is another option too... there are a LOT of ships already in the database that no capsuleer has. For instance, the Apotheosis was derived from SOCT 1. Not a big deal, right? So what is so difficult about issuing SOCT 2 for the next promotion, instead of re-issuing the same one? There's also a SOCT Cruiser. For something a bit bigger they might issue out a Styx or any number of the really cool ships they already have that no one ever sees. Nobody has a Gold Magnate... just sayin'... The bottom line is that there are other low-effort options. Re-issuing the same smack over and over again is just no-effort. I'd like to see the no-effort policy curbed.
Agree wholeheartedly. Any of these new ships are viable options for CCP to use with MINIMAL effort. Let us cherish the old and the new. Recycling old historical ship as part of the new promotions only cheapens our experience and memory. |

I can't imagine that creating like 20-ish custom shuttles and a bunch of random implants that do similar things to the regular ships is that hard. Eve could put a team to that for a month, maybe 3 guys or so and just design like 20-30 items for release in future happenings.
Like promotions, anniversaries, hilmars resignation and stuff like that.
Maybe it's just me, but that seems kinda "duh" to me. |

Thank you very much for the Christmas presents... but....
My dear loving CCP, did you guys really had to toss in BATCHES of old historical items all at once as presents again?
I love you, CCP, but is it really difficult to differentiate between the old and the new? Is it possible to hand out these ships as "Civilian Zephyr," "Civilian Primae," and "Civilian Echelon?"
These unique historical ships were handed out to commemorate the following events:
Zephyr --> Apocrypha Expansion and the awesome wormholeness Primae --> To celebrate the introduction of Planetary Interaction Echelon --> Introduction of Sansha led INCURSION
Suddenly Santa Claus decided to hand out all these ships although 2011 winter has nothing to do with the historical events mentioned above?
It's not too late. Please hand out the SHIPS with different naming conventions. At this rate, every presents that you guys hand out each year, will look so cheap and dull. |

You are absolutely correct. Recent moves from CCP discourages the "collecting profession" of EVE Online.
I feel like I am experiencing SWG and STO back again with their awesome promotional items and re-issuance of those, again and again and again. Took a bad precedent where the players were not enticed by any of these promotional items in the future. |

I didn't mean to be too flippant. I understand where you are coming from. I agree too that it wouldn't hurt them at all and would be more considerate to their players if they somehow differentiated the 1st editions from the rest. |

I'm happy to see players who achieve something receive limited edition items as a reward/trophy. These items should only ever be handed out to players of note - players who have won an organised competition open to all.
I have no sympathy for older players (who didn't compete in or win anything) who received an item as a gift and are now complaining that newer players are receiving the same gifts.
If you really care about such things, perhaps CCP can make visible the unique serial # of each ship. This effectively date stamps the ship.
As far as I know, you can only see this serial # by accessing player sql data or viewing it through smartphone apps like Aura. For example, the oldest ship I own, according to Aura, is a Badger Mark II (serial # 1001532038930).
I could imagine seeing the serial # of a ship visible in the market. Of course the serial # column could be hidden for buyers who don't want to see that info.
Older ships might command a higher price because there are collectors who are keen to procure the oldest ships still operating in EVE.
I wonder who has the oldest ship in EVE? |

Thank you very much for these little gifts, but the recent move only makes us think that CCP is inclined to use the special historical items for other promotions in the future. Is this the way of the future promotion? It would be nice if you venerable folks could stop handing out and recycling old unique ships and items with so much history and memories. |

I, too, collect 1's and 0's given to me in exchange for real world currency and puff about it as best as I can, trying to forget my life's mundane nature.

It is not only collectible items that feels unfair.
How about giving away **** loads of faction ammo or boosters etc... Some people try to do their living by selling those.
I think whole selection of gift contains too many items that are normal game items. Gifts should be something special example remap was good one.

I can't deny that we are all happy with these nice gifts, but I believe with the amount of time and effort it took for CCP to separately "create a new site," "implement a system that allows players to choose gifts," and "hand out unique gifts from pretty much out of all the historical collectible items," CCP could've used that time to create another new item as part of the Christmas gift.
Please stop recycling old historical items that have nothing to do with 2011 events. |

The Antiquarian wrote:As part of the "bringing new players initiative," CCP also decided to reuse the Cerebral Accelerator, a unique implant given as part of purchasing the commemorative "Commissioned Officer Edition." The same logic applies to the Accelerator as well. There are some extremely foolish people (like me) who purchased these boxes for the sake of obtaining the unique implant as collectibles. Reusing these items for other promotion only cheapens the sentimental values and experience associated with obtaining the items.
You started to have me until here. This is just silly. That implant was never meant as a collector's item. It was meant to help new players catch up a little. It's also not exactly "historic" in any meaningful definition of that word, nor were they unique at all. Not six months ago my friend bought 3-4 of those boxes just for that implant (and the fact that it was $5 cheaper than starting a new account online) and made his new toons upon joining the game. Dude's still paying even if he's not exactly active of late.
Hell, the GM's give them back if you get podded during the timer or do some other dumb thing to get it lost.
It's a major, important advertizing initiative that has had tangible results in increasing the player base....which is especially needed after the mass exodus that happened in reply to Incarna and that massive PR turd about boutique Japanese pants or whatever. I don't think it fair to expect CCP to stop releasing something of real value to players and to them just so you can have a unique item.
Now, if it was something like the ships given out as rewards at the tournaments or something like that...that's something to ***** about. People actually had to work for those items that WERE supposed to be unique. Re-releasing the Zephr and others though, you didn't do anything for that but be here and now other people are here too.
Edit: My God man, you can't even use that thing anymore and it's not transferable. |

It makes perfect sense that Gold Magnate is reintroduced in the game because there isn't any left, but that shouldn't apply to other currently existing super-unique items. There are players who spent a fortune buying ships in abidance to the prices set by the "invisible hand" and the preconception that the items are "unique" because all these items are historically associated with certain events/live events.
If CCP keeps introducing these historically unique items for other future promotions, its action not only screws up the market price, but it is also a good indicator that CCP completely ignores the "collecting profession (niche)" while completely devaluing the sentimental values attached to these wonderful items. |

We would like to see some consistency in CCP's sales promotion strategy. Sometimes you hand out PLEX discounts. Sometimes you recycle out ingame item of significant sentimental values, other times you hand out an Ishukone Special Edition shirt.
Dear venerable and great CCP, are you guys just throwing darts or rolling dice to come up with these incoherent random strategies?
Oh and we beg you to stop recycling old historical ships in the future promotion. Just create another set of NEW items please.
Please make the "collecting profession" worthwhile in the EVE Online. |
