I am a two-month old player with about 1.7m SP, and the Lvl 2 missions have become way too easy in my Brutix. I tried my first lvl 3 mission, and ouch! I didn't loose my ship, but came close.
Is there a list somewhere of minimal skills you should have in, say a Brutix, to be able to solo Lvl 3 combat missions?
Thanks. |

well its kinda hard to list skills that are needed because a lot of it is skill and knowing the mission
(what missoin did you get ? some are very hard, harder thatn some lv 4 and some are easier than lv 2)
you should be able to use med weapons depending on weapon system, beable to fit your cruiser tanking mods at the minimum. ----------------------------------------------- I lost 5 sp of skill trainning time during the last patch an i demand that ccp refund it to me |

The mission is "The Seven's Prison Facility". My Brutix is fitted with 4 x 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun Rails and 2x 150 mm Gauss Gun rails, due to powergrid limitations. I am using medium Hammerhead drones which seem to be doing most of the damage.
Thanks for any advice you can give. |

Doing most lvl3s with a prophecy since I had about 750k LP outside learning.
Most important things to survive lvl 3s is good tanking. 2 active harderners (missionspecific) and a MAR2 work wel lfor me so far.

I have Engineering up to Lvl 3, and about 1 hour away from Lvl 4. Sorry for the noob question, but what is MAR2? And how do you know which active hardners to use for each mission?
Thanks. |

MAR2 = Medium Armor Repairer 2
And which hardeners to use.. review a mission at eveinfo.com (preferably before you accept it) and see what kind of targets you get and what damage it they do. There is also a general list flying around somewhere, quite a few people have it in their bios, too (myself included, look me up).
So..for a to do list: - Train for MAR2 or get the best named med armor rep (accommodatio) - assuming you haven't already - Always pick the best 2 harderners for the mission (very very important) - Use at least 6 * 200mms so you have enough dps. Actually I would recommend to use 5 * 250mms, you will typically have no problems with shortrange cruisers, but rather with those which stay at 20 km+
Skillwise it's really not a too huge investement. I have lvl 3 in pretty much all gunnery skills (exept gunnery itself), lvl 3 in my BC skill, lvl 3 in my energy skills. Lvl 4 only in drones, engineering and my mechanic skills. Refusing/not doing technological secrets, illegal activity, angel extravaganza and spy stash. The first 2 because I have problems with the support frigates, the latter 2 because the dps is too much for me to tank atm. And I am avoiding the new completely changed missions (pirate invasion, the score, headhunters) because they still have a rather bad risk/reward and isk/time ratio.

As soon as my MAR2 is trained today im starting L3 in my Brutix.
I run 5 250mm Compressed Coil 1's 2 Tractor Beams 2 Fixxed Parralel Cap Rechargers Target Painter 10mn Afterburner Damage Control Adaptive Hardener and 2 rat specific Hardeners MAR2
As soon as I get the MAR2 on im starting L3's and I see no problem with this setup.

Thanks for the great advice. I have an accommodation Tech 1 med repper, so I'll train up one more lvel to get the MAR2.
I tried going out again on same mish with N-Type Explosive and Kinetic Hardners and got beat up again. I have 1600mm rolled tungstun plates, but still can't seem to tank very well. |

Ah, that explains your grid issues. Drop the 1600mm plates. They help your ship to last longer, but they do zip for your sustainable tanking, which is more important for PvE. Use a cap power relay instead (or a magnetic field stab if you have no cap problems).
Also, if I remember correctly the 2 cruisers in the prison mission typically keep distances of 20-25 km, which means the 250mm will still be able to hit them decently with antimatter, but the 200mm won't.

train gall battlecruiser to atleast 3, maybe 4. and energy systems operation works nice too. - guns i use 4x250mm scout rails (iridium) and 2 150mm scouts (antimatter) my other highslot has a drone link augmentor.
meds - ab,webber, 2xf-b10 cap rechargers
lows - med inneficient repper, adaptive nano, two specific hardeners, and a mag stab.
all t1/named, and i havent had a level 3 i cant beat yet. rogue slavers room 2 was tough the first time, but ive got the strategy down now.
ive got a rag tag bunch of skills- 400k a piece in gunnery, and drones. if youre gonna run the adaptive to save cap, get the armor compensation skills to 3 or so, otherwise run a damage control. i trained shield management and operation up as well 3&4, youll find on a bunch of level 2 mishes that youll be regenning shields as fast as they take it away, thus saving that beautiful armor. i have bc3 (notice the bonus, use that repper less often....), will take to 4 at a later date, as im training BS skill right now to make the domi a mean little monster.
as far as i can tell, the brutix is a mean little mission runner. but i train the skills that keep me alive before i train the ones thatll make the other guy dead, that propably has something to do with it. oh, and get drones 5.

M, here's my Brutix setup for level 3's:
H: x4 250mm Rails, x1 Drone Link Augmentor, x2 small Nos M: Webber, ECM/AB, x2 capacitator rechargers L: small arm rep t2, med armour rep t2, 800mm t2 plates, nano membrane t2, nano regen membrane t2
x10 warrior II's
The only mission I need to warp out on is the Mordus Headhunters one (since the patch and the dps of 30-40 cruisers firing missles at you!).
I am planning to ditch the two NOS and get Medium Duals, so I can still get teh medium turret bonuses and the tracking benefits of a 150mm.
The ECM/AB is a pain, althoguh I do like the AB, I cannot fit it at the moment. The ECM is proving rather fun though!

My setup is....
High -4x 200mm -2x 150mm -1x small tractor beam
Med -AB -2x cap recarger -1x medium cap battery
Low -800mm plate -Med armor repper -Damage control -2x Hardeners, active, passive, whatever you want.
Done -2x Vespa -3x Hammerhead
The only missions I ever have to warp out on are the Rogue Slave Traders 2 of 2, and Mordu's Headhunters.
Relevant gunnery skills at 2 or 3, weapons upgrades at 2, engy and electronics at 4.

I really appreciate the great advice on the builds. I'm at 1.8M sp, are these builds and Lvl 3 missions do-able with that much sp?
Thanks. |

It really depends on where those 1.8M SP's are invested. I have 3.7M SP's, but 2.2M of them are in the learning tree... so I technically only have 1.5M SP's in "real" skills.

As said, they were certainly doable or me with 750k LP outside learning (or other non-combat-relevant skills).

The shield extenders are useless, better with cap rechargers so that you can run the repper. And that won't even remotely fit.

Some will be doable, some won't. I did all level 2's in a crusier, and did quite a few level 3's in a thorax but that got blown up quick on one mission. I do all level 3's in a brutix now, but I got 4.5 mil of useful skill points though.
