Why is there such a disporportionate difference in the cost of the carrier skill and the dread skill. Considering that the carrier is a far easier ship to fly in most regaurds, shouldn't it be cheaper than it is.
Caldari Dread: 90 mil Caldari Carrier: 450 mil?

Most people forget that the Carrier skill is also used for Motherships, which are far more expensive than Dreads. I would've done two separate skills personally, but this is how CCP chose to implement things

Because the Dread skill is too cheap? - just a thought

Dread skill should cost more, but it can't be increased now given the tractor beam BPO situation, unless they just do it without telling anyone (cue whines)
Another argument could be that carrier skill is used to fly moms, and they aren't cheap at all

Edited by: Galk on 02/07/2006 08:54:19 I think it's all about right.
Dreadnaught skill might only cost 90 million.. but with the cap ship skill running in at 360.. plus all the ancillary skills.. cap repairs ect....
It's a hefty chunck reguardless.
As for the difference... i suspect that a seperate mothership skill wouldn't be exactly flying off the shelfs, so they decided to lump the 2 together with an increased cost for an extended isk sink. ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

Carrier skill is expensive because it is used for Motherships as well ;) ---------------

It's also worth noting that, IIRC, carriers themselves are a lot cheaper than dreads. The result of this is that the initial investments to get into both (skill+ship) are in the same ballpark, but you lose a lot less replacing a carrier than you do a dread because a large chunk of that investment is a one-time cost

The price is fine.. stop complaining..
Balls up and buy the thing like all the other grown ups have.
If anything, the dread skill is way too cheap.

you dont need to lose a carrier to lose loads of money, fighters = 16.5mil to build and carrier pilots will lose quite alot.

Capital Ships should NOT be handouts like battleships have become.
That doesn't mean that the people, who are a few months ahead should get it cheap and the others should pay a lot more. It's a skill and a one time investment.
I think anybody, who has the SP, should have the same opportunity to train for dreads. That you or whoever was first means nothing.
edit: You have got already the advantage that you are ahead and that should be enough. -------------------------- Post with your main !!!111 |

The point of the post is that to get in a carrier it cost 700mil..ish. Dread, 400mil...ish. I could care less if it works for motherships too, the balance there is the training time.
I have the money, that's not a problem, I've already even bought one. Still doesn't answer why a ship that's "lighter" than a Dread just like a cruiser is "lighter" than a BS.
The capital ship skill already is a lovely lil hit to my wallet, kinda sucks that I had to take another 450 mil hit just to fly a thing that gets to move around with a drone bay full of 18 mil each toys (400mil total).
I plan to fly a dread soon enough, and I guess only paying 90 mil will be nice, but still makes no sense.

If you want to play the "RP" game, it could be because flying a carrier is significantly more complex than flying a dread?
