I have been doing a lot of missions for the gallente. Today when i jumped a gate and entered caldari space i got a warning stating i was an enemy of the caldari people and i would be terminated.
At the next gate i got targetted by the 3 caldari navy ships.
My standing with caldari is -5.15 i presume this is what triggers this. Does training diplomacy help against this ?

Train diplomacy up, to reduce your negative standings for all factions, and also take and quit any important Gallente storyline missions that come up. Each failure will drop your gallente/min rating, and raise your amarr/caldari rating.

Example (Gallente also):
Blood Raiders have me as -5.71, but with my Diplomacy at level 5, the "effective" rating is -2.57. Other examples:
Serpentis Corp -1.97 (from -4.96)
Angel Cartel -5.12 (from -8.90)
Caldari State -1.58 (from -4.47)
Diplomacy and Connections also help on the 'positive side:
Blood Raider Covenant 1.38 (Diplomacy - from -0.78)
Gallente Federation 6.77 (Connections 5 - from 5.97)
Ore 6.0 (Connections 5 - from 5.0)
You get the idea...

Worst case scenario: Caldari State holds you at -10.00
Diplomacy 5 adds +4, to give you a standing of -6.
At -6, you're still KOS

Yes, but the likelyhood of you fighting them out and escaping is fairly small...
I wonder if there is any way of getting your standings back up..

Doing missions for Caldari will get your standings back up obviously.

If your standing with the State is -2 or lower, no agents with the State will speak to you, making doing missions for them difficult. Ratting will not help.
You need to accept Gallente (or to a lesser extent, Minmatar) storyline missions, and then FAIL THEM. This will directly raise Caldari (and to a lesser extent, Amarr) faction standings. Will it simultaneously crap all over your Gallente standings? Yes, yes it will.

It hasnt..
Only way to do it is to do more missions for their enemy and then fail storylines... which is a bit silly. In order to get better standings with Caldari you technically have to do more work for Gallente until you get a storyline.

You can also do missions and then storyline missions for someone that that faction likes. For instance, if you can still do Amarr missions you can get your faction up with caldari by doing Amarr storylines.
Go to the info for Caldari faction, then go to standings, then see who they like. If you can do missions for any one of those, you can get your faction back that way, and some of them might not even lose you faction with Gallente.
For instance, I do missions for caldari which loses me Gallente faction, but I get some back by doing Sisters of Eve storylines.

before u were to get to this point another option is to if stnadings drop start doing courier missions for the dropped faction ie if at -1.1 do courier (manufacturing marketing and advisory) agents this doesnt involve dropping any other standins but will get youre standings back up
