One thing I have always missed in EVE is a sense of scale. Perhaps the technology of three years ago simply did not allow for it but as big as space stations seem and battleships seem they still feel like toys. Planets likewise. I always hoped for awe inspiring but as good looking as EVE is that sense of massiveness just isn't there. Frigates feel like fighters, battleships just somewhat bigger fighters. It never feels like colossal, titanic sturggles between behemoths. Hoping Kali will solve some of that.

Better planet texture resolution FTW
Also: The video worked for me this time! Holy ******* ****! Amazing, approaching photorealism on the sky and distant planets by the look of it. And the compression made it difficult to tell, but did it feature proper starfield backgrounds instead of stupidly huge nebulae everywhere? ---------- Throwing ships away doing stupid things since April '06 |

Freespace did it right long before EVE. So that's no excuse :p

There's a slight difference between a techdemo with a single solar system and one moving object (the camera) and a fully playable MMORPG with thousands of solar systems being simulated at once.
It looks pretty, but until I see something workable in an MMORPG I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm pretty sure if EVE had planet exploration you'd get ganked the minute you stepped onto firm ground.

Edited by: Owi on 05/07/2006 22:03:37 Looks nice but :
Development status:
The game is currently in early development, and no playable version has been released yet.
Estimated time before first playable release: 1 to 2 years (in best case).
