I just stared and was playing the tutorial for the first time last night. I got to the mining section and started mining before the servers went down. Now I'm ment to fill my cargo hold (120) and each asteroid fills .1 of my cargo space.
Am I doing something wrong or do I need to mine 1000+ asteriods to continue to the next section?

Looks like you hit up a nearly depleted asteroid. Others should yield hundreds of ore, not 1. However, you don't actually need to fill your cargo hold for that step of the tutorial, and as long as you have some, you can go on to the next step.

I mined quite a few asteroids (about 20?) and they always yielded the same amount. I'll try again and hopefully get more!
Thanks for the reply.

I think they purposely have very little ore: you don't need to fill your cargo, IIRC.

You mean the deadspace part? I got around 700m3 of veldspar from 1 rock in about 5-10 mins. Try going to another spot with bigger rocks.

You should get more than enough from a single rock to fill your full cargo. Are you leaving your mining lasers on for 180 (??) seconds to do a full mining cycle?

Yeah, just keep trying, The same thing happened to me until in the tutorial until I hit one that wasn't depleted. ------------------------------------------ I refuse to use a sig until my avatar is up.
Wait, this is a sig.... |

I had the same problem when doing my tutorial back in the day. At the time there was an ongoing discussion about respawn of asteroids.
I think that the reason you are getting very low yields from individual 'roids is that people are using scanners so that they can stop short of depleting them.
They probably base it on the theory that if it is not depleted it will regrow faster. A theory that was shot down by a Dev some time ago I believe. Everyone likes a ferret in their pants! |
