Dear all,
I bring some news from EVE Software regarding our CDN:
---
Recently we went live with some changes to how we store and organize the downloads for EVE Online, on our Content Delivery Network (CDN). The change goes hand in hand with updates to the EVE Online website. This should mean a seamless transition for us, but it will impact any third party websites or developers offering our patches for download.
As some of you might know, our files were organized into two main locations on our CDN: the root folder, which mapped to http://content.eveonline.com and the test folder, which mapped to http://content.eveonline.com/test
This has now changed. WeGÇÖve removed the release/test naming paradigm of the files, and reorganized the layout so that files are grouped into a folder based on the revision of the game they are related to. We have also modified the naming of some of these files in this first pass, and may do so again further down the line, to make maintenance of these files easier for us.
To show you what I mean, IGÇÖll give you some simple examples:
http://content.eveonline.com/test/evepremiumpatch305887-306424_test_m.exe
...would now be accessed by the URL: http://content.eveonline.com/306424/evepremiumpatch305887-306424_m.exe
http://content.eveonline.com/test/mac/eve-premium_006863_286775_test-mac.dmg
...would now be accessed by the URL http://content.eveonline.com/286775/eve-premium_006863_286775-mac.dmg
Any third party developers out there maintaining websites that provide links to players to download patches will have to update the links they provide, or risk generating invalid links.
Older files on our CDN will largely remain in their current locations, to support websites that were referencing them that we have no control over, until such a time as we discontinue support for them. New files will be published into these new locations. If you come across any links that you find reference invalid links after this move, just let us know and weGÇÖll get to fixing them.
