So i want to use this ship to kite.
typically what kind of max speed do i want to be getting?
the fit i have atm goes about 2.2km/s i think i probably need to be around 3 kms what do you think? |

With one nano you can fit 2500 m/s easily, that's enough for most situations. I wear my goggles at night.

This is what I run to get 2506 m/s without links or implants and 330 gun dps @ 41 + 5 km and that's usually plenty.
High 4x Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Mids: Experimental 10 MN Microwarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II Small Cap Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 400
Lows: Medium Ancillary Armor Repair, Nanite Repair Paste Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Nanofiber Internal Structure II 3x Heat Sink II
Rigs: Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Energy Locus Coordinator II Medium Energy Metastasis Adjuster II
- The T2 rigs are not strictly necessary but they usually aren't that expensive but T1 won't hurt you too much, you don't want to get outside of 40 km anyway. - As long as you don't warp to zero like a champ anything fast enough to catch you should be downed pretty quickly as you fly away from it by double clicking in space, this is why you won't need to make over 3 km/s. If something bigger than a frigate is showing it can catch you, it's probably time to bail before he gets there. - Anything slower than that decide how best to approach it, sometimes you will have to drive off a few ships before you can fight in long point range. - Your rep is there to keep you on field from incidental damage like drones or a missile ship, don't try to use it to active tank the fight and remember to overload it every time you use it. - DON'T EVER GET SCRAMMED!!!! - Enjoy. Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification. |

many thanks this fit is very similar to what im using atm.
i managed to get a few kills with it last night (2 or 3 caracals and a frig oh and i got in on a pilgrim) but i dont think im allowed to post them here.
i was surprised i managed to beat the caracal actaully becuase i had virtually no tank and a massive sig. luckily he didnt start shooting me till it was too late
in retrospect i could have done with more tank and less speed as the carcals were only doing ~2km/s.
fun ship to fly. |

Cruisers moving at 2K/s are considered fast. You can drop some speed by being crazy heavy tanked and use the default speed of the Nomen to keep range on BC's etc.
The projection of the Nomen means you can afford to fit hi-tracking pulses and get in close to other ships when you have the tank advantage. This is a little convoluted, but here's an example of what i mean:
[Omen Navy Issue, Test copy]
Medium Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste Internal Force Field Array I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Tracking Enhancer II
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 800 Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M [Empty High slot]
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Valkyrie II x5
You could also go the compelte opposite direction and try this:
[Omen Navy Issue, Brawla]
1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Overdrive Injector System II
Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II Small Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 400
Focused Medium Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Small Energy Neutralizer II
Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
Valkyrie II x5
Valkyrie II x5
Key notes: You move at 2k/s (overdrive is flavour, use what you want in that slot). This means you are on par with the other fastest cruisers in the game (e.g. very little is able to kite you or catch you) You can project damage to 30KM (So you can't be range kited by a tackling frigate, it will be trashed by OP scorch range) You have massive levels of EHP for a T1 cruiser, but you are faster than almost any other cruiser with the same level of tank. The Stabber Fleet issue is nearly 500m/s slower with the same configuration and has nowhere near as good damage or projection. You will be able to sit between 18-22 KM from most heavy tanked targets and kill them.
Why this fit? Against squishy cruisers like the caracal you can get on top of them and win without breaking a sweat. By comparison the previous fit had 16k EHP + 14k repair over 80 seconds. This fit has 52k EHP.
It's also really cheap. |

my fit again is similar but ive droped one of the adaptive nanos for an overdrive injector and i have a TE aswell and downgraded the guns to focused mediums.
This allows me to easily fit a medium neut which saved my ass today. |

Any cruiser in RVB should be fit for anti frigate - since you'll need to kill 20 of them
i;d recommend swapping the cap booster for a web, and the small neut for a nos. 5 medium drones will trash webbed frigs. |

If your wallet is a little tight then a regular Omen is a good place to practice for a Nomen while risking a fully insurable hull instead of a faction one. It has the added benefit of having less margin for error so your Nomen will feel like it has very cushy optimal when you get into it. Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification. |

Because drones are getting killed in solo/very small gang kiting business. Simply because ppl cannot reach you in your kiting drone cruiser. |

Well I don't fly what I can't afford to lose repeatedly so I'm looking at the cheaper hull. Besides as what the poster after you said, practicing in a difficult hull will make it easier to pilot the easier ones. Kinda like how manual drivers being able to drive autos but not the case for most auto drivers going into manual. Besides loosing several faction cruisers in a row just for "practice" sounds silly. That's like telling newbies to fly rocket hookbills when a rocket kestrel is cheaper. |

Learning to fly a stabber sets you up for a Vagabond - but a SFI is NOT the same fighting style as a normal stabber. |
