I read somewhere that CCP was working on removing needs for downtime.. I think hiese are great news, but what time frame are we talking about: weeks, months or years?

When they get it working. IIRC, it was a long term plan, so expect it right after WIS. Disclaimer: My opinion does not necessarily reflect that of my corp or alliance. My opinion is my own, and if you don't like, that is your problem. |

But seriously, 10 minutes of break is a problem? Yes, as it can be exploited..
For example, you want your location to be shifted artificially by thousands of kM? Log off from that loc, then log on a few seconds before downtime... You will be logged off again by downtime, without the usual 30 or so seconds of latency, wherever your ship is at that moment. Very handy to escape a POS camp with very little risks....
I also like to play during those times, and this downtime is not as "convenient" for all time zones....

There will eventually be that one time EvE goes down and never comes back up again.
Then we'll truly know EvE has died.
Until then, as a suffering AU timezone player (first world problem TM), I'm just happy knowing that everyday I'm among the first to witness that the game is still alive.
I pity all of the players that go to bed not knowing if EvE will still be alive when they wake up. The nightmares must be terrible (or maybe that's just this post). Come Win At Eve - Join The Vendunari

They use stackless python so they could technically get rid of it whenever they want. They just use the downtime to perform general maintenance and checkups, which is why it's so short compared to other games. |

Played EQ for 10 years and the only time the server went down was for expansions, patches, updates for special events or if the server went side ways and had to be restarted. Yes it was multi-shard but still it was up probably 99% of the time. |

Yes it was multi-shard but still it was up probably 99% of the time. Even if EvE is down for the full 30 minutes each day (which it isn't), then aside from mass server problems (DDoS, power failures on a server, etc.) TQ is up 98% of the time (97.9% if you want more precision).
So in practice, aside from the unplanned events, TQ is up >98% of the time and unplanned outages are relatively rare, so overall the servers are up failry close to that 98% mark, which isn't bad really.
Would it be great to be rid of DT, yeah sure I guess, but for 1% more time maybe (100% is never going to happen). Come Win At Eve - Join The Vendunari
