Good thing we having them in this torney.
Would be a shame for someone to tank for 15 minutes only to lose their ship.
Start giving people credit for survival refs.

I am so angry about this.
Why did you decide to change the rules in the middle of the tournament?
Hey LeMonde, maybe you forgot the rules. I'll quote rule number 15 for you.

That match deserved a draw. "extend the time indefinitely, he has to die eventually" is complete crap! That's no way to run a tourney. Why should he have to die? I can go with a 10 minute extension, but if after 25 minutes it's not over, call a daraw. Not so much for Truk's raven, but to penalise SMASH for sucking. They should retroactively declare it a draw, and refund Truk his ship & mods.

at the 15 min mark, SMASH had all 5 ships and he had 1 left (the raven) so he would have lost either way. |

not really, for the first round the rules say that after 15 minutes it will be declared a tie.

To extend the match for the shear pleasure of seeing a very expensive ship blow up is poor form imho.
The loss is obvious. Forcing the loss of the ship after that much time is approaching criminal.

As I replied to in the other thread, this is very poor form. Changing the rules right in the middle is completely uncalled for. You set the rules, now follow them. Randomly coming up with some additions to the rules after the fact is BS.

This raven tanked not 5 ships, but one. This is about math.

Totally agree.
Everyone on Shiva's TS were very disappointed for the Raven pilot who tanked for so long and lost his ship.
Poor form on the part of the judges, IMHO.

He should have lost, but kept his raven. Simple as that.
No fun in sitting there watching for 20 minutes plus while they wait for him to run out of cap boosters. And no point in killing the raven.

Yes, changing the rules mid-tournament is completely unacceptable. Fight should be ruled a draw and Raven returned.

That shows how poor CCP is organising a tournament of this scale, rules once set are meant to be kept. look at the World Cup, there's no rematch, everything is decided on the Penalty Shoot Out if have to.
So disappointed, CCP.

CCP probably felt it was more entertaining to prolong the match than to have it end due to a time limit.
In the end, this is about CCP entertaining their customers. Firstmost, the people involved directly in the combat, and secondly the people watching, commenting, betting and talking about the tournament.
Given the reaction and praise for the tank (and the smack for the victors as well ) that was a result of them prolonging the match, I'd say they made a good call. They made a superstar out of Truk. Tell me that sort of social reaction wasn't worth the overtime?
As for them changing the rules, I think that is fine. I love Eve because I know that nothing is set in stone. Things are fluid and many aspects change in the future. As long as the rule alterations are reasonable and for a good reason (entertainment), I will continue to be fine with any on the fly adjustments/tweaks to the rules.
And the ship was a Raven, not a faction ship so there wasn't a huge amount of money lost by having him die in a memorable fashion :) |

Will all you whiners please read rule sixteen;
#16 In the elimination rounds, fights will continue for as long as needed. If there is still a stalemate after 20 minutes, and tanks do not seem to be about to break, here is the proceedure that will be followed:
1. The team with the most ships alive wins.
2. If both teams have the same number of ships alive, the alliance with the largest ship alive wins. 3. If both team have the same number of ships alive, and equal ship sized, fighting will be stopped. Each alliance will then have 30 minutes to prepare an interceptor to fight in a 1v1. This interceptor duel will decide which alliance moves on to the next round.
If your afraid to lose ur ship don't fly it... We didn't lose any ships to FA, Eris Discordia killed my teams frig and destroyer cuz she said they went too far from her in the arena...

this is an official tournament right? rules have been set for this and all, ccp and the pod pilots should follow those rules and agreed to them with entering the tournament. why have rules when you dont obey?
i am not talking about any special match where the time has been extended, but it should be clear to anyone that also fighting for a draw is a tactical thing and ccp just kills this possibility by breaking their own rules. this is so poor for an official thing ccp. thought you can do better. this is just a matter of principle.

Edited by: StoneCold on 14/07/2006 22:32:26 Trevedian, atm we are not in the elemination round (tell me if i¦m wrong). atm #15 is used.
after the best corps leave their groups, #16 is used.
(else #15 would be totaly senseless)

I agree with it being fun to watch. However at some point a line needs to be drawn for fair play. In as much as world play draws viewers there needs to be clearly defined rules in order for people to not feel cheated and to maintain a positive view towards these kinds of events.
When extra time is given in a football game for example it only makes half the crowd happy. I just feel the more rules you allow subject to circumstance the more abuse will be evident.

Yes it was entertaining, and we were all cheering truk until the bitter end.
As for all the nay sayers, The Rock's official position is that it was a good fight. While the rules change was to our detriment, it could have gone the other way.
So, if you think we got cheated, instead of saying so on the forums, please send donations to cover our losses to Truk.
As always, we promise a good show every time, even if we slide into this tournament on a wing and a prayer. ( we thought we weren't in it until the 13th, and had to scramble to get our stuff together ) Unfortunatly, instead of being a primary contestant, I made plans today and Sunday, so we are operating on a hastily thrown together backup plan.
Anyway, GF, and next time we will go into this with more than 12 hours prep time.
Finaly thanks for the tourney ISD, managing somethng of this magnatude, with last minute changes and scedualing is never easy, yet somehow you managed to pull it together.
