Just a tip from broadcast, if you make your ident animated it gives viewers an indication if the stream is still running (when in fullscreen) when your live game client is having problems, yes I know the audio is an indicator aswell but not 100%
All in all really impressed with the EVE TV, really enjoying it, congrats to everyone involved escpecially those behind the scenes.
I'm sure someone has raised the question somewhere else but will the EVE specials, interviews and making of's etc be available for download, perhaps even the footage in DivX or a HiQ codec. I would love to watch the specials and Hi def footage again please CCP
Again great job and I'm sure it will only get better over the next days.

Eve TV rocks.
It's very easy to pick holes in the commentators performance (not knowing what a Sleipnir is?!) but I'm not sure I would want to do it. All in all I think they're doing 'ok' and if it's anything like last year they will get better with every day.
The coverage overall is great though and having a host with three pundits back in the studio is simply brilliant, regardless of opinions about any of the individuals involved.
Good job Eve Radio on producing Eve TV and fantastic job CCP for supporting them with this.

They really need to address the brightness of the video output though, it's like watching it in black and white sometimes, so if you can sort that for tomorrow/next week then that would be fantastic

I found it looked better in windows media player than playing in firefox.
I enjoyed the whole thing in general, but the 'deliberate' errors put a smile on my face. :)
The BoB guy and the IAC guy were good. Tux was a bit afraid to say anything, but the skinny guy on the right wasn't adding much value to the content.

Yeah, it is a bit dark, i will agree with that.
Aside from that i have had it streaming to my computer for nearly 3 hours and its been awesome.
Congrats to BOB for a complete ownage session, my bet with Omber Zombie is still alive. Kudos to that insane Raven tank for making the whole of EVE catch flies in their open mouths for 15 minutes. Morsus Mihi also deserve a shout for wiping the floor clean with their opponants without loosing a ship. The teamwork between your command ship and Recon pilot showed.

Edited by: Stamm on 14/07/2006 21:36:56 Yep. Something the commentators missed is teams that did well but lost.
For example Black Reign Syndicate did not play badly, they just didn't play better than the other team.
I can't remember the name of the team, but there was one team that won convincingly, but frankly you could have pulled people randomly from Empire doing missions and they'd have won too. :)
D2 got slaughtered in the first round. Except, no, I don't think they did. Both teams went for the opposition curse, wisely I think. D2 had an armour tank on theirs and The Five appeared to have a crystal set shield tank on theirs - an inspired move. Had D2 taken down the opposition curse, then they'd have won just as convincingly.
Many of the fights were balanced on a knife's edge. As soon as one part of the symbiotic team was broken the whole team fell over. So the end result of 4 ships surviving painted an uneven picture, when I feel many of the fights were very close.

Tux was probably afraid of something like this happening: Tux: That Raven had an incredible tank, and was dealing lots of damage, he really overpowered his opponents. Ships and modules forum: 1. OMG TUX SAID HES GOING TO NERF RAVENS!!!! 2. Its Official! Ravens overpowered, Tux admits it! 3. Tux plz respond: Why do you hate Caldari? 4. I just finished watching the first round of this year's Tourney. I have a few comments.
First, I have a real good PC, and internet connection, so I know that this is not that type of problem. And as the studio shots were clear, I know that I was at least getting a good stream. So, why are the battles so blurry? Do the PC's that are capturing the action not fast enough? Or maybe don't have good enought capture cards to do a good job?
Second, Who is the director? Isn't the director the one who tells the "camera persons" what to do, what shots to frame, what ships to focus on, what "camera" is live, etc? The "camera" action at times really sucked. How many "cameras" are there? It seemed as there were only 2. Maybe more "cameras" need to be added so that shots can be set up, "BEFORE" being switched to. Way to much unneeded zooming in and out, and most of the time the "camera" was not on the action.
Third, although I like both of the DJ's from EVE Radio that were doing the announcing, if I was not watching the action, a good portion of the time I would not have known what was going on. Please think of having one do play by play, and the other doing color. You know, just like other sporting events. --------
Like "She" said, "It's not your size, it's how you use it."
I only "look" innocent. |

That's quite true. I think it was better for Tux being there though, didn't mean to sound too negative about that. Did not think much of the ex-player though.
I did quite clearly hear Tux quoting Stamm on Dominixs though :) Nice to know he's reading the death threats I've been sending him.

For a bunch of amateurs and a maiden voyage "broadcast" I think EveTV was a HUGE success. I don't mean amateurs in a negative way either, I am assuming the vast majority of those involved with EveTV have little to no experience with television.
The commentating was quite good IMO, it was nearly as good as the US coverage of the Tour de France (similar accents too).
I just wish there was a way to tape this cause I have to be at work for saturday's event.

The dude to the right (JusJack?) on Eve TV said my full RL name on live tv =|
At the moment my cell is being bombarded by thousands of fans and haters alike and thus I will demand reparations in a form of my choosing by email next time (saturday?) Eve TV is on.
It'll be tasteful and it'll be fair and I think I deserve it since the guy ignorantly read out loud my RL name <_< --------------------------------------

I agree with BL, they are doing a great job. And also agree that he couldnt do it, he would be to drunk after the first fight to be coherent after that

lol, I caught only the last 3-4 matches from yesterday and from what I saw it was brilliant. There not professionals but hay I agree with Blacklight also when I say, theres no way I could do that.
Lets just be glad it's free, we can see what's going on and all in all I'm well impressed they've managed to put this all together. :)

CCP / EVE Radio rocks.
Good job and yes, the fights were a bit dark and blurry and some of the comments a bit odd, but hey, they are running a Games Company normally, not a Broadcasting network. Did you saw the perfect backdrop for the second cam with stating ccp right to the presenter?
Anyway big thumbs up for them letting us be a spectators at this event.

I was going to make a thread about just this subject. Eve Tv rocks indeed, inspired move by CCP. A few recommendations I would like to make are (I think some have already been said)
Adjust the brightness!! please I cant really see what is going on in fights.
To the commentators of the matches, can you try and mention the names of the players when announcing the ship types before a match, this would be a big help.
And finally, to the after match experts, your doing a good job, but more discussion about tactis and use of ships would be great, try and lay off the cock jokes.
That is all I have right now.

The reason that the game footage is dark is beacause it has not been gamma and colour corrected for the transition into WM9's YUV colour space; the reason it is pixellated is at a guess that they are using an S-Video Graphics card output (which you would on a budget) as opposed to a broadcast data card such as SDI cards.
Anyway not a criticism, the TV rocks and for the budget I imagine they are putting it together on, they're doing brilliantly.
If the brightness (gamma) of the live in game footage could be boosted a tad though, it is very dark on my monitor which is hardware calibrated.

I just hope the fights get put up in Ipod format after it's all done.
Any format would be great though, I really wanna see that BoB fight since everyone is talking about it.

It was great. Exactly like looking the stupid footbal (soccer for USA's people) programs, except that it was good
I'll try to make some non-players look at it next weekend, let's see if we can convert some more people to the EvE-religion.

You can fix the brightness and contrast from WMP: View -> Enhancements -> Check Show Enhancements and Video Settings. At the bottom you should have the controls. I like to set both brightness and contrast to about +1/5 but my monitor is a bit dark so you could use lower values. Anyway, play with the controls until you like the image.
There must be a video playing for the corrections to be seen and they will reset each time you start a new video, except for paused ones.
There are ways to correct the settings through your codecs but I won't go into that.
