To active shield hardeners: 3% bonus per skill level to Shield EM resistance when the modules are not active To passive shield hardeners: 5% bonus per skill level to Shield EM resistance
now testing this with a level 2 em compensation these are the results.
Active (Photon Scattering Field) - when this is added to the ship the EM resistance goes from 0% to 6%, at level 1 it goes to 3%. this shows there is a direct 3% bonus per level.
Passive (Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II) - when this is added the resistance goes to 41.25%, with some investigation this is calculated by taking the 37.5% default of the scattering amp and adding 10% of 37.5 . which is 37.5 + 3.75 = 41.25.
now I understand that it would be silly to use the passive method on the active hardeners as it would have almost no effect, but if you word the skills in the same manner one would expect them to be calculated int he same way and so giving the passive T2 hardeners with level 2 a boost from 37.5% to 47.5%.
any thoughts? Thank you Foot

well the fact it adds to actives when there turned off, is rather pointless lol.

I got screwed by this one too - I expected the following:
Passive EM Hardner: 30%
Passive EM Hardner + level 4 EM Compensation: 50%
Which would make passives with the skills equal to actives - nice but not unbalanced.
But instead what I got was:
Passive EM Hardner: 30%
Passive EM Hardner + level 4 EM Compensation: 30% + (0.7*20%) = 44%
So now I am not even matching a non-tech-2 active hardner.
Unsurprisingly I am now back to using active hardners again and 4 days training time on the compensation skills is wasted. I'm just glad I only trained 2 of them before I noticed.

they meant 5% more of the original passive shield hardeners resistance boost per level Inappropriate signature image, removed -zhuge WHYYYYYYYY?! |

OK, but a Dread Gurista passive is 40% which with a 25% bonus becomes 50% which is a t1 active

i think its should give a small bonus to active hardeners when they are active would then be worth doing

40% + 25%*0.6 = 55%
So with a dread gurista passive and a skill trained to 5 I can just about match a T2 active hardner?
Not really a good deal...

Yet people use passive hardners in many setups anyway. How curious.
Oh, no, wait... shields. Never mind.

Peeps, scroll back up and read what Outa Rileau wrote, she correctly explains (albeit briefly) how the compensation bonuses work.
They work by giving bonsues to the original resistance of the MODULE. Not the left over bit.
i.e. 1. you have a 0% EM resistance on your ship 2. you stick a DG EM passive hardener on it and have lvl4 EM shield compensation skill.
(a) original resistance. (b) DG EM passive hardener is 40%. (c) lvl 4 EM compensation gives you a 20% bonus to THE MODULE.
---------------------(a)---(b)---------(c) new resistance is: 0% + 40% + (0.2*40%) = 48%
If you look through the passive hardeners, a DG hardener with lvl5 compensation is 50%, but to get anything higher than that (like the common as muck 44.5% corpum-A's) you have to go to officer loot. Unfortunatly, ive not seen an officer passive hardener (unlike corpum-A passives).
Interestingly enough, there are Pith modules that offer officer like resistances BUT CCP DOES NOT DROP them!!
As a caldari pilot, i would like to see two groups of modules dropped, that are currently only listed: 1. Pith Passive shield hardeners 2. Pith/Gisti MEDIUM shield boosters.
Tedric.

Ahh, I had completely missed that - it explains a lot though.
