I should be getting my 20.1" widescreen LCD monitor in the mail soon but I was just wondering, are there many players out there that play EVE in WS mode? I mostly got the LCD as a secondary for tons of desktop space, but I did remember that the game can be played in WS. Is it worth it, or should I keep EVE on my CRT and let the LCD stay for my forums/movies/stuff that makes me AFK?

I play EVE on a 21"(or 20.1" if you prefer) LCD widescreen. It's a beautiful thing. I save the crappy CRT for the forums.

Edited by: Oriella Trikassi on 18/07/2006 20:52:55 EVE looks great on my new 37" LCD TV. Those awkward windows that need maximum width on normal screens such as the Market are now much easier to handle.
Windows has a failsafe system whereby if you change screen mode it will revert to your original setting if you don't confirm. DirectX does not, so be very careful setting your new screen mode in EVE, picking a screen resolution and refresh rate that you have already tested in Windows. I carelessly didn't and had to revert to my backup setup files to get EVE back.
Try it out anyway, I haven't found any widescreen problems.

Thanks guys. I got home today and the box was there! *joy* I'll be taking out my old 22" CRT (so old school it has curved glass) and putting this in the secondary position. After that part works, I'll try out EVE on it. I might have only 1 other game that can go WS anyway, but it's light enough to switch with my other CRT around (for keyboard/mouse purposes). ^^

I use a 26" flat widescreen monitor and eve looks absolutely beautiful. Just remember this above all else when setting up your new one. Do not tick the widescreen box in the display settings of eve if you have a widescreen monitor. Run the game at your flat panels native resolution and everthing will be properly proportioned and extremely crisp. I run at 1920x1200 and it looks incredible.

Oh God my eyes! There's so much space! I'm running at 1280x800 right now. my vid card can go to the up to 1680x1050, but when I bought the monitor it said it goes up to around 1440xsomething. So is it a bad idea to push it past the 1440? heh.
It's so big and so much space, but it looks like I'm closer to everything, so I start to see edges again, where I didn't at 1152x768 on my CRT.
Hmmm

i actually play with the widescreen box in settings checked. I have a normal 4:3 monitor. I like the black bars at top and bottom, makes the interface look more "clean", targets are in the top on a nice black bar, and hud with shipstats and modules have a nice bar at the bottom. very stylish :)

Edited by: Sevarus James on 19/07/2006 10:55:50 24 inch WS here. Normally I play in FS @ 1900X1200, as my linux box has virtual desktops so I don't 'need' to window EVE.
Click the link below my sig and you'll see what it looks like when I do go windowed mode. (EVE running there in a 1280x 800 desktop window.

Edit: Oh Hotness! I checked the website where I bought the monitor just in case and it says I can do max at 1680x1050! *sets that* Ahh, it looks crisp now, not distorted or anything. ^_^

Okay first the 1680x1050 isd the typical native mode for a 20.1" widescreen, use it and you will be fine..
Next from what I read I think a lot of people are confusing the wide screen mode in the game with a wide screen resolution, two different things. If you have never wide screen resolution gamed you do not know what you have missed :-)

I agree after re-reading that. With a WS monitor there really is no reason to use the 'widescreen' setting, as all it appears to to is anamorphically stretch the screen, which can really cause some odd distortions to things as they get to the edges of the screen. Use a WS resolution and use EVE with 'widescreen' unchecked and you oughta be good ta' go. ----- ------------

Whatever resolution your graphics card and monitor can support... I do have the 24" from Dell, and 1920*1200 ain't no problem. In fact due to production error in my first one I had two of them for a few days and tried spanning... EVE does well with 3840*1200 too, altho the fisheye effect will be clearly notable on the left and right edges (not to mention the cut right through the middle of the image...). So basically I'd say EVE supports any resolution that the DirectX API will come up with for your gfx/Screen Combo (that should be basically the same choices you have for your desktop).
One hint tho: Even tho 1920*1200 will offer you lots of space... it won't help the cluttering of windows. At some point it will basically the look the same than having less space, the only difference: it's even more windows to track (my personal experience since I got that screen, not only with EVE).

Yeah, when I first got the game I thought the WS check box put it into a special mode, so I was afraid to touch it, haha. then I clicked it while tryin out my WS monitor and was like, "Oh..." But now that I'm running the native resolution, everything's great. Windows are small and managable. The only weird thing is with station services, like fittings, where the ship circle is in the center with a sea of color around it, and the stats allllll the way in the corner. It's just kinda odd I guess, but not a problem.
Has anyone ever had problems with WS or LCDs ghosting in EVE? My response time is 8ms. I haven't been in combat yet, but the station and simple flying looks ok.

lol, CRT are actually superior for gaming. I play in 1280 x 768. Which is widescreen on my normal scale monitor, leaving space above and below so i can keep an eye on msn and w/e. -----------------

Nobody's will ever argue that, but LCDs are nice for there own reasons. My main reason that I'm getting one (tomorrow hopefully) is that I'm tired of having to sit a foot away from my CRT. This thing is so bulky.

Native resolution of the monitor is 1920x1200.. pretty much the max most games will go up to.

24 inch Dell widescreen. I can run Eve fullscreen at 1920x1200 widescreen.
Most of time I run in a smaller widescreen window, so I can watch tv while playing Eve. :-)
