The answer: Nobody has been scammed for nothing. Read up in the Market Discussion if you want to be on top of these things.
There are still tellers that do their work everyday, you can open accounts, deposit ISK, withdraw ISK, close accounts. You can apply for, and get loans and insurance deals.
There is an audit going on by EMFI Manager that will attempt to clarify a few things about EIB.
For further discussion, you should go to the Market Discussion Forum.

Old, take a look at market discussions. This little soap opera has been going for a fair while now.

Eh, who cares if his alts are fake?
The real question is, how does he use your isk to make more isk so he can pay you the interest on your isk?
Fact of the matter is, banking is a 'scam' - they take your money, then they loan your money to other people at an interest rate that's higher than the rate they are paying you and pocket the difference. The amount of money a bank actually has is much, much, much less than the amount of money the bank 'owes' all of it's customers, and banks depend on the fact that it's extremely unlikely that all of hteir customers will withdraw all of their money at the same time.
(In the olden days, before FDIC, banks would often collapse when customers would panic and try and withdraw all their money at the same time.)
So, is it a scam? I'd say probably, because there no way for this 'bank' to use the money you give them to get more money than they are supposed to give you later. But, if he is keeping most of the money he's been given out as loans, and he's charging more for the loans than he's paying out in interest, well, then it's no more a scam than any other bank is.
As far as the web page the OP referenced, there are some errros in there - for example, it is quite common to pay higher interest rates out to people who invest more money. There are overhead costs for each customer, so customers who invest a lot are cheaper than customers who invest a little, and you can pass some of those savings on to the customer in the form of higher interest. _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |
