I fire a volley of missiles at a ship and drop it to 75% sheilds and think, "Wow, this is going to be easy!"
Two volleys later and I haven't even dropped the ship's armor below 10%.
This makes me a lot.

I hate shield tankers. You have to work so hard to see any real damage.

Edited by: Kel Shek on 20/07/2006 01:35:53 my first fight with my Ishkur was against a Caldari AF.
in the heat of the moment, I had forgotten as a caldari he would be a shield tank.
so I figured I was doing just Ok, that his shields were down as mine were... I cycled the armor rep and I was fine... seemed weird he wasn't taking any armor damage, even though I thought his shields were gone for long enough he aught to have been taking further damage...
then he warped away... and I remembered "oh yeah! hes a shield tank!"
I guess that Acolyte drone (1 acolyte, 2 hobgoblin, 2 hornet is what I had at the time, iirc) and my nos must have really hurt.
edit: I hadn't intended to fight... he started it by going after me when I accidentally warped to the belt he was in.

I hate figuring out what type of tank a person is running, with Gallente, Amarr, and Caldari, its pretty much known.... With Minamatar its annoying since they can do both.

actually if you know the ships well you can know what they are using, most of the time.... -------

Yes but there is a bright side to someone who armor tanks. Once you do manage to get through their tank it's a very good possibility they are not going to escape before you pop them, unless they were suicidal and try an hull tank.
Also if they are using high drain energy weapons there may not be much cap left for the tank. Player Recruitment

Well, we cant really pick one... some ships are much better for shield tanking, some for armor tanking. So just learn which are which and you will know ahead what the guy is using.
That being said, yeah, its fun when people think the shield going down means they are winning. --- Eve Wiki | Eve Tribune | Eve Pirate |

Annoying ? You have to eat through shields to blow any kind of ship anyhow. The only thing with Minnie ships is just to pay a bit attention at your opponent's shield behavior...

well, take a stabber for example, it can have shield extenders and a scram in the mids with damage mods in the lows or the standard pirating setup with an armor tank

I dont know, it kind of needs a MWD/AB and at least one disruptor in the medium slots...not sure if a shield extender is such a good thing. It will only make the sig alot bigger and make the ship take more damage from missiles etc.
Armor tanking is usually better for solo piracy because it sets the med slots free. --- Eve Wiki | Eve Tribune | Eve Pirate |

Is it just me or are the numbers here a bit odd... If one volley drops him to 75% shields, 2 more volleys should take him to 25%. Not getting past 10% armor isn't too bad if you think about that

I know you don't always have time for it, but if you zoom right up to a ship, you can see the glow of shield hardners...

i love both!!
but u have to have a stupidly big armor tank to compeat with a ravens shield tank
basicaly, armor tanking u get more rep per cap
and shield u get more rep per sec so in a short fight the shield tank wins and in a long fight the armor tank wins! but with this new t2 ammo and ****zle its quite hard to outlast a raven
thats why i call for a nerf stick nerf everything but gal ships please (\_/) (O.o) (> <) Resistance is Futile Find us here |

Take a look at tanking Command ships. The Sleipnir can fit a large shield booster and rep 300+ shield every 3 seconds, uses a lot of cap but thats what injectors are for.
The Absolution can repair 468 armor per 9 seconds with the best faction repper fitted, uses less cap but its cycle time is much higher.
In my experience Shield tankers have a big edge presently, particularly in 1v1

Damage taken will vary based on the flight characteristics of the target, i.e. transversal(for guns, not missiles like in this case), speed of the target, sig radius changes(MWD). Usually my first volley doesn't do as much damage as the following ones do, so 75% shields to 10% armor doesn't sound too odd to me.
I like to think of myself as the chlorine in the gene pool.
