Edited by: Rashmika Clavain on 25/07/2006 16:38:02 ...if they are macro miners?
I've noticed some new people in the system I haunt of late. I don't want to stereotype here, but one of them had an Asian name with a number in it (oh noes!), ie Annymao01.
There are four toons, three of them sit in Battleships and the fourth hauls. They are all created on teh same date within 10 minutes of each other and they are all in newbie corps.
Admittedly, my attention was prfcked by the number in the name, so I used the scanner to track them (this has helped my scanner skills a lot rofl) down. One battleship sits alone at a belt dumping ore into a can, while the Hauler picks it up.
I wasn't sure what to do, so I EVE mailed and tried to talk to them with no response. I then moved in and VERY timidly swapped their can. By this point, my heart is thumping as I know there are two more Battleships in the system with an agression timer on me. Would this battleship scramble me? No... nothing. I didn't even get targetted back.
The hauler came in, picked up their remaining can and left without saying a word.
I offered the ore back to them, but again there was no response to my attempts at communication. In the end I popped the can full of Veldspar (I maybe classed as an ore thief, but I won't be classed as a macro miner hauler type!) and that was that.
So how can I be sure they are not legitimate miners? Or is that a silly question

With the tools available to you it will always be a judgement call.
In this case it doesnt seem too hard to figure out what the most likely outcome is.

I hate to be racist, or stero-typical, but (once my father told me "saying 'but' erases everything you just said") if their name is Andywong2001 or ChingChangWollaBing02 (etc) they are probably a farmer and you should just pod them.

I'll actually answer. Names can be misleading, though not as often as the PC folks would like us to think, but 4 characters all created within minutes of each other in noob corp? c-mon, that literally dresses up in a placard screaming Hi! I'm a Macro, gank grief and slaughter me. No treatment is to harsh.
Then again mabey my friends just aren't cordinated enough to get characters at the exact same time as me...

Why all this hate towards macro miners? Macro miners are the best! In fact I want more macro miners. The more macro miners there are the cheaper your ships cost, the cheaper your ships cost the more pvp you can do.
So you see its really a win win situtation.

We already have such place; it's called Sisi. You can fight all you want there, with practically free ships.
Actually, why you bother to play in Tranq at all?
Thinking about that might give you good ideas why macroers (or any other easy way of generating resources) are bad.

I don't hate macro miners; I disagree with people farming EVE's public resources for real life profit at the expense of other players.
When I say "at the expense of other players", I mean people who want to mine the belt and use the ore to make ships in game, rather than sell it on EBAY.
I'm not an economist, but surely flooding the market with ISK drives prices up? It's called inflation.

economics is a bit strange to follow sometimes, but yes flooding something into the endless supply will decrease it value.
Now macrominers will flood the markets with ore/minerals. This will make the ore/minerals cheap, but this will not flood the market with isk.
Now how does isk get mostly into game? The biggest chunk is comming in through rewards of missions and bounties on rats. For the rest the npc market is minimal and then the biggest chunck of that market is even an isk-sink, I'm thinking about buying skills.
So to flood the market with isk we will need farmers that just do ratting or run missions. And it aren't macrominers, but said that I don't tend to feel much for macrominers.
