It's 15 bucks... I'm sure in a few days it will be 5. I liked both games...but the last expansion didnt seem as grand as the first. It's a 4x game that also allows minor capital ship customization. And there are other cool things in it that you cant really do in other games such as place bounties so pirates go after them etc.
MP use to be pretty competitive, but realize the game has been out for years so not sure now. |

It held my interest for a couple of weeks, but the combat is basically in the select-all-right-click-the-enemy style. If you had the bigger fleet you won. Very little in the way of tactics.
Still, if you can pick it up for 5-10 bucks its probably worth a punt. Blacklight Incorporated: Recruiting now for PvP and Industry. |

There's a single player skirmish mode (not a campaign) and what appears to be an active multiplayer community. I've played it for a few days and am enjoying it - it's worth 10 quid imho. I think multiplayer is where it's at. I'm not sure the single player skirmish mode has too much longevity, despite 3 races, as there does not appear to be too many different planet builds. Having said that there are mods which increase planet diversity.
The game plays like Galactic Civilisations or Master of Orion, but everything happens in real time rather than being turn based. So you can zoom in to a battle and it suddenly looks like Homeworld, although the fights are not as tactical as they are in Homeworld.
I'd give the single player game 7/10 so far, but I've only just dipped my toes in, and have yet to experience multiplayer. I'm Florio on Steam if you want to hit me up (or kill zombies with me in L4D2). |

Yeah. Pretty much. Including the structure bashing. Blacklight Incorporated: Recruiting now for PvP and Industry. |

Its fun. I play as the Vasari and build up massive fleets (1000+) ships before conquering everyone.
Worth the buy. |

This. Buy it and never look back. Even if you suck at combat there are other ways of beating your opponents. Monkeys writing-á Shakespeare? That's like putting CCP in charge of game balance and content updates. |

Grimpak wrote:SoaSE was nice, until you play SotS 1. +1 for Sword of the Stars 1. Get the complete collection. 6 very distinct races. Mixture of turn-based goodness with real time fleet battles. Randomized tech trees. Customizable ship configurations. It's really fun, and the complete collection can be had on steam for $8 with the autumn sale until Nov 28th. There is a SotS 2 but it was rushed out by the publishers and is a giant buggy mess atm. In a few months it will be worth a look for sure since it takes all that was good about SotS1 and expands on it. |
