Seems to me the best money is in science. What are the skills I need to research and copy BPs and should I get into building too and just one more thing, do I have to do missions to get my standing up with the R&D corporations?

Just like the best money in real life can be made in Casinos. 
You wont make a lot of money copying/researching BPs, most people just buy their own, and research them themselves.
As for R&D corps, you need both standing with the faction they belong to and standing with the corp itself. So you will be doing lots of missions.

You don't necessarily need both. The standing requirements give two numbers, a corp standing and a corp OR faction standing. So you can activate the agent with either the minimum corp standing and a high faction standing, or just a high corpstanding.

It's also worth noting that there are apparently no more T2 BPOs to give out, making the current R&D situation a bit grim. There has been some talk about additional BPOs being distributed in the future as well as the ability to use RPs to buy BPCs and/or stuff you need to do reverse engineering.

No more T2 BPOs to distribute? wtf? I have a feeling I may have wasted a lot of time and money on R&D. I wonder if I will get a refund from CCP? :-P
So is that just specualtion or did CCP actually release a statement on the matter?

All research agents have "nothing predictable" under all research categories. This means that no BPOs are in the lottery queues at the moment.
As for "wasted time", see message number 3.

Unless the agent info tabs are wrong, all R&D agents show "Need corp standing of X in addition to a faction, personal or corp standing of Y to use this agent" as opposed to all other agents who just say "Need a faction, corp, or personal standing of X"
For example I've got a Lai Dai standing on my combat pilot of around 1, but a faction standing of over 5 from I think high Caldari state. I can access level 4 regular agents despite doing only a couple level 1 Lai Dai missions a long time ago but the best R&D one open to me is a level 2 -8.

IN effect you need high corp standing not high faction standing. If you dont have the corp standing the good RP agents wont deal with you. They dont mind low faction standing though.
