Ok, just posting up a suggestion that I mentioned to a GM in a petition and was asked to post because he liked it.
For the petition system, it should generate, at some regular interval (maybe once a day, or once every other day, or twice a day or something) a message to send out to all unanswered petitions. This message would give you your current order in the que (how many people are ahead of you in line), and possibly an estimated wait time.
That way, people with long-unanswered petitions aren't going, "WTF? Why isn't my petition being answered? Did CCP lose it??"
Something along the lines of:
"Thanks for your patience, there are currently 564 petitions in line before this one. You petition should be answered in approximately 3d 17h 34m 23s."
You could even find a way to just make it like an auto-updating header. You could even make it look like a skill training, which would make it interesting."
Anyway, just a thought I was told to share.

While it would be difficult to give an estimate in minutes and seconds it would definatly be a usefull addition to the petition system. -----

Yeah, the time estimate is not that needed....
but the queue sounds cool. /signed

Actually a queue number is pointless without a time estimate.
There may be a thousand ahead of me - but do they process 1 a day or 500 a day?
Given the average rate they process petitions they can guestimate.
i.e. 'There are 712 petitions ahead of yours, we expect yours to be processed in around 1 days time'.
I really don't want a daily mail spam though - somewhere to see this on the website is enough :)

Now that the petitions are viewable through the web (links are in the petition e-mail, IIRC); that would seem to be a great place to include this information. -- Sorai Carbide Industries Proprietor of EVEbay, EVE's free shopping centre.

Overall nice idea. Doesn't really matter how it's implemented - if it's implemented at all, it would be great.

If there is a time approximation we might be seeing one of these:
"Thanks for your patience, there are currently 564 petitions in line before this one. You petition should be answered in approximately -3d 17h 34m 23s."

Instead of giving you a time estimate they could just have a page with data on number of petitions delt with in the last day/week/month etc. This would also help people understand how busy the GMs are.

Sounds like a great idea...
For the estimated time...take the average time per petition * number of petitions ahead of yours to give a round number (hours) before you can expect a response. Post it in the sorry for the delay email that comes out daily. ------------------- |

We get an awful lot of petitions in where people are asking about the status of their previous petitions. As you can imagine this quickly leads to delay in replying to the actual petitions thus making the current issue worse. A notification to the petitioners would go a long way in helping with this.

You could have it like:
Your petition is currently #53rd out of 768 petitions, The current rate of processing is 30 petitions per day - We expect yours to be answered by 5th January 2007.
:)
Knowing CCP they will Add a skill - Emergency measures - Training it to level 5 will give a little more info per level.

Not a bad idea, but delay queue update time to once per hour at the most.

Yes, good idea. Could CCP introduce a couple of skills to reduce waiting time?
Example. Skill: Petition jump Works: pay 500k isk and jump 100 places in the queue

No i say i hated the auto-responce that they had bfr. If they make it turn-offable then it would be a good idea.
